  1. Used to have the perfect place :(

+2 :( I'm a Hutt-ite now... and my family are here from the UK then anyway, so we're full! lol

But I'm still working in the CBD, so let us know where and what you're up to when you're here, would be great to meet up!

  2. hey

he owns Hutt City Grooming, 37 Hautonga St Petone

I haven't taken my car to him as I do it myself, but he's taken care of a few of my mate's cars before they've sold them and has done a fantastic job on their cars

Cheers for that, I'd do it myself but don't have the polisher & gear... yet ;)

  3. Have a look at the detailing world forum, there's heaps of info there- if you are going to do it yourself, maybe try a random orbital/ dual action polisher? Not as fast, will take longer, but chances of damaging the paintwork are much reduced... even minor defects will shows up like dog's balls on a black car though, especially when it's clean!

Can you take some close up shots of the worst areas at a bit of an angle to show the damage? Curious to see how bad a job they did! Have you hit the polishers up about the job at all?

edit Wom, where is your mate's business? I may be requiring their services soon... one place next to me I looked at using, and then walked away once I say they were using brushes on the paintwork...

  4. Bimmersport & Toyspeed for cars

bmw5, bimmerforums, 6gc & celicatech - also for cars, but not so often

Facebook for networking & catching up

Was NZ Herald until that SAS fiasco, now it's Stuff- kills D/L limit at work though...

Trademe, and Easylister to keep track of listings

Garage Journal- info about tools, some awesome garage projects

PC world and geekzone for tech enquiries and sorting out problems- saved me and friends heaps in PC tech fees!

Lots of deal sites, ebay, youtube, etc etc.

  5. Apologies for the n00b question, but would putting the larger front brakes onto the rear affect the brake bias between between the front and rear? I mean, M power I imagine is looking at a racing application, but how would this work on the street? Would any modifications be required for the brake cylinders? Would certing be involved?

  6. Update. Just turned up today. Well packaged so as not to break. Took the old amber bulbs out and put the new ones in and they look pretty good to me. Gone is that egg yolk look. I just bought one set in to test them out but now i see they are great i am going to buy a couple of set's so i can replace the back ones and have some spare.

Pics, bulbs then before and after. :D

Random, I'd just found a set on eBay yesterday for the Curren! Needed (sorry, wanted! lol) Blade bulbs for my indicators, but if others are interested, I could grab a few sets and combine postage?

  7. Maybe this will help how it is rated..

    http://www.gallaghercorp.com/i/pb-06-a.jpg

Off the top of my head it's measured by pressing a sharpish 5kg weight into the compound and seeing how much it sinks in. The more it sinks , the lower the rating.

    And wiki says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shore_durometer

4.5kg for D, or .8kg for A, close enough ahaa.

Thanks guys, I'd forgotten all about this!

So looking at the two sites, what range of harness would rubber and polyurethane bushings be? I mean, if there are 75D bushes, how much harder from there would be too hard and too soft? I mean, would 75D be used for racing, and if not, what generally would be? What sort of rating would OEM rubber bushes be in direct comparison with poly bushes? (I know that they're on a different rating as they are rubber, but obviously they are used as they are harder, hence the question). Thanks! :)

  8. Okay everyone, before people start getting their asbestos-lined knickers in a knot (and this gets locked by moderators), how about everyone think about the new year ahead and their hopes for it, which is what I think the OP was getting at.

Whatever 2009 held for us, most of us will have had a break before working in 2010, ample chance to think about life etc. We don't need to start it badly for Bimmersport by picking at each others thoughts, or their hopes for that matter.

    [dispenses chill pills to everyone]

Have a good 2010 everyone, regardless of how 2009 was :D

  9. Thanks for all of the info. Seems a bit like daylight robbery if you're just buying stuff for yourself.

Have just got to do some figures and work out if it is still cheaper, pretty sure it will be.

    Cheers,

True, but bear in mind that GST is a tax on consumption of goods within New Zealand, so if you import it here, you're consuming it here... $50 is the administrative limit at which it is considered worth imposing...

  10. Work was rubbish, and I lost a family member.

Bought a 535 with an utterly knackered body.

But it was a HD12 with M5 kit, leather sport seats, LSD and a manual gearbox, so now I have a project.

Oh, and I got married and we now have an awesome baby girl.

2009 was a great year for me, but 2010 will be a great one too!
