Would a bad ABS module/pump be responsible for a clunk noise when braking? It also locks up the brakes for a few seconds when braking, but it only does it when I start driving. It goes away after doing it once or twice and then braking is normal. ABS and BRAKE lights go on and the traction light (the light with the triangle and ! in the middle). Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi peeps My X5 is back in the shop again - got the brake light trifecta again. This is round 3(!) after previously having the ABS control unit repaired and then replaced after it failed again. But this time, after reversing out of a parking space and then moving off at low speed i noticed a juddering from the rear of the vehicle and resistance. Pulled over and turned it off, and then got off the main road. Was OK on the short drive home. Did it again then next time i did a short trip to the supermarket, but this time the brake system lights all activated and the judder stopped Nursed it in at low speed to Driscoll Motors this morning for them to look at. The bit of reading I've done points to this maybe being ABS Master Cylinder rear release valve sticking ? Ideas? Anyone had this issue before?

The ABS has given up on my 1991 850i however the dash check light is not lit (bulb is not blown as it lights at start up). Unfortunately, I have not been able to (actually Josh hasn't been able to) scan the car and nor have a number of experienced BMW service agents locally. Josh is determined to solve the diagnostics issue but I'm wondering what manual ways I can easily test what's wrong with the ABS. If it was the pump or control unit I'd expect the dash light to trigger... Would I be right? I can probably get a working control unit so can test that easily but don't want to start switch pumps unless I know it's the root problem. Thanks in advance internet people.
