  1. So I have a 2001 X5 E53 with a nav radio and want to install an aux cord. The videos I have watched explaining how to do It have a 3 pin plug behind the monitor that you use for the cord. When I took out my radio it doesn't have any extra plugs or cables behind it. Can anyone help me out? Is it at the back with the 6 disk changer?
  2. So I recently bought a 2009 E70 X5 3.0SD privately from trademe. It came with a list and receipts of all the good stuff being done (swirl flap delete, new glow plugs, new injectors etc etc). I paid the guy online after a very positive phone conversation and my parents drove from Invercargill to Dunedin to pick it up and bring it back for me as I was away camping for the weekend with the wife and kids. I got back to find out this thing has a knock... I've had it on the hoist and it's definitely coming from the bottom end and I'm pretty sure it's a rod bearing. I contacted the seller immediately and he is claiming he thought it was just diesel knock and didn't know there was anything wrong with it etc etc. The short version is, unless I take him to the disputes tribunal and win a case I'm not getting my money back. My own stupid fault for just taking the guys word for it and for not going to personally check it out. Don't worry I'm already beating myself up for not doing so, and for taking the word of some lying asshat, as after this last conversation with him I'm 100% convinced he knew it was buggered. Anyway... I'm not opposed to fixing it up as I really love everything else about it, and have the tools/workshop to do it, but I would need to preferably find a short or long block that isn't already knocking to start with. I'm hoping someone here might know where I could find such a thing that isn't going to run me broke as I've already forked out enough to buy the car. If I can find either a long or short block I'll strip it down and do rod bearings and timing chains etc before I put it back in the car and then I know what I've got. This is the later twin turbo engine M57N2 alloy block, not the cast iron one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hello! I have a 2003 e53 X5 and want to replace the stock stereo with a new CarPlay compatible head unit. Looking at units between $700-900. The current unit also shows the backup camera so hopefully a new unit will work with the stock camera. Does anyone have any recommendations for what I should buy? Cheers!
  4. Would a bad ABS module/pump be responsible for a clunk noise when braking? It also locks up the brakes for a few seconds when braking, but it only does it when I start driving. It goes away after doing it once or twice and then braking is normal. ABS and BRAKE lights go on and the traction light (the light with the triangle and ! in the middle). Any ideas would be appreciated.
  5. Hey there, newbie here just gotten myself a used imported X5 grade 4.5. This is my 1st BMW car, been a VW user for quite some now so I'm hoping to learn and contribute here when needed. Cheers
  6. I accidently / inadvertently bought the incorrect LCD screen for my e39. I ended up with an X5 screen which is built for a different viewing angle. So $80 will own it if your X5 screen is looking a bit daggy or is missing pixels. It is brand new, been fitted (and some wires extended) into the bordmonitor, but it is just the LCD screen only which will require fitting. YouTube has vids... Part number is LQ065T9BR53 and brand is OEM Sharp. PM me if interested.
  7. Hi peeps My X5 is back in the shop again - got the brake light trifecta again. This is round 3(!) after previously having the ABS control unit repaired and then replaced after it failed again. But this time, after reversing out of a parking space and then moving off at low speed i noticed a juddering from the rear of the vehicle and resistance. Pulled over and turned it off, and then got off the main road. Was OK on the short drive home. Did it again then next time i did a short trip to the supermarket, but this time the brake system lights all activated and the judder stopped Nursed it in at low speed to Driscoll Motors this morning for them to look at. The bit of reading I've done points to this maybe being ABS Master Cylinder rear release valve sticking ? Ideas? Anyone had this issue before?

    X5 sump wanted

    I'm after a sump from the e53 x5 with the m62 engine
  10. Hopped in the X5 this morning and when helping my youngest lad get in noticed that the left rear mat was wet. Lifted it out and noticed the floor was sodden. Checked the other side and same thing! The X5 had been parked outside during the massive amounts of rain we've had... looks like this issue: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/x5-e53-forum/61235-wet-floor-not-drainage-block-fixed.html Taking it back in again to get it sorted. Oh well...
  11. Just had a rear passenger window stop working on my X5 - youngest son put the window down all the way and heard a clunk :\ Can hear the motor going so sounds like it is a regulator issue. At least it wasn't raining!!!
  12. Looks very tidy given the 230kms and and at damned good reserve price of $5k! Got nice big 20's on it too ... http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1087767174.htm At this age and kms you can still happily chuck a Vero/Autosure MBI on it too... via MTF Mt Vic. Cheap, big and grunty - but do remember the 17l/100km for urban
  13. Don't expect many of these to be lying around . . . but just in case! This isn't the parcel shelf - it is the vertical net to stop stuff flying into the cabin if you fill the hatch up
