tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 GRRRRRRR I am really angry as i was driving through town today coming home from CPIT in Chch, went round a corner changed into 3rd gear then the clutch pedal fell right to the floor and tons of smoke poured out from the engine. Turns out my master cylinder is pumping fluid back through the system back up to the fluid resivour and past the seal on the lid. Limped my car to Import Part Specialists ( My dad is good mates with the owner ) and we had it on the hoist and attempted to bleed the clutch it just pumped air bubble after air bubble with very little fluid. So master Cylinder has to come out so i can take it back and get a new one. I have my old one so at least i can prove that it failed as the fluid comes out the wrong end........... I know it has failed but can somebody tell me why ? I am not Noob and was very carefully installing all new parts in the clutch system I was not thrashing the car either. It was working so perfectly then all of a sudden nothing ! !

PJWO 2 Report post Posted October 9, 2007 Brand New clutch kit,Brand New Slave Cylinder and Brand new master. The clutch felt great as it always did since i had the car going. Then all of a sudden nothing. The Master cyl would be factory faulty (Green Box?) there is a whole bunch of M/C's from one supplier (who Import Parts use) that do that. I'm surprised you got that far with it. I still have an outstanding claim with the importer for ones I sold including the one I tried to use in my Race car!Take It Back for a credit. And dare I say it (as a aftermarket parts supplier) Go buy a genuine one.

I only sell euro made aftermarket ones now. Spent days trying to get my one to bleed up!!!Good Idea to re-kit your one if the bore is OK. Just make sure the seal from the reservoir is in properly have seen break fluid on the carpet many a time.
mark247 39 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 I know this thread is old but im gonna post this anyway. A simular thing happened to me, i bought a brand new Master Cyl and it came in the green box but the brand was KS or something, and it wouldnt disengage the clutch. I bled the lines so there was no air bubbles and all it would do is blow brake fluid up into the resivour. Piece of crap.
OLLIE 26 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 i've always rekitted the clutch masters myself, A) because it's cheaper than a new one, because I know its going to work properly and C) because I stick a slightly thicker spring in because I have broken 2 before, they tend to get brittle and snap in half. What makes it more frustrating is that the 2 bolts holding the MC in are freakin hard to get to and fiddly as hell to line up, especially with a seat in the car. Hense why i pulled my seat out, its only 4 bolts which takes 1 minute.

Got mine from BNT. eeek, i returned mine and went to BNT to get another. If i have the same problem with this one i will return it and might just end up going genuine bmw. but in saying that, my mate got his one from BNT and had no trouble. OLLIE 26 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 BNT kits for E30 MC's are wrong by the way so basically they don't have a kit for E30 MC's. Go to a specialist hydraulic workshop, Ronnie at brake and clutch hydraulics in glenfield will sort you with the right seals
