Alarms

Recommended Posts

Who has one and what would you recommend. I have the E36 coupe. Prefer to get an Insurance approved one.

There's been a few discussion on this before. Stay away from Uniden bascially.

Dynatron is good. I used the 7600 model which is 4 star. 7800 has 5 star because of the batt. backup siren.

Please use the search for the rest. :)

I have a Mongoose M80, which is a 5-star system. Its aprently one of the best on the market at the moment, and it obviously does the job as I still have my car, but then again who would steal a E30?

Summary of those previos alarm threads:

4-star:

Recommended Dynatron D4800 or Mongoose M60

5 Star:

Recommended Dynatron D5800 or Monoose M80

Others are also OK though. The consensus was that the installers skill mattered more than the alarm brand, and don't advertise which alarm you have - put a sticker from a different alarm on your window to confuse the crooks.

A bad install will make a good alarm rubbish and vice versa.

Dynatron 4xxx and 7xxx series is differnt by that the 7xxx series has transponder remote, which means you don't need to press a button on the remote to dis-arm the immobiliser before starting the car.

As Graeme (Bravo) said. Both those alarms he mentioned are very good with good after sales back-up. There are others as good out there but in ANY case - the alarm is only as good as the install.

I fit them & have seen some horror stories of other installs where I like any crook could disable it in seconds flat.

A standards approved system properly installed is tricky to overide -at least buys time or sends the crook to the next car

i have an M80.

Its ok, i hate the lag of the remote press to alarm action.

Also the siren is as chunky as a dynatron.

Dynatron have amazing backup support service.
