Chalk 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Ok my cars diff is stuffed. Or its making a rather large amount of noise. Ive put it into a garage and it seems no one can find a replacement lsd for my 87 e30 m325. What am i to do? Will a normal diff do the job? And what ratio am i looking for? What does the ratio actually determine for the car? Cheers for any help i can get.
pureboiracer 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 the diff ratio is the balance between fast accelaration and top speed. if you got a lower ratio you would accelerate faster. a higher ratio means the car will be slower accelerating but will go faster overall. as far as im aware any diff out of an e30 should fit
bravo 35 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Any e30 diff will work. Replacements only come along every so often. You need to remove the diff and have a look inside to see where the problem is. They can be rebuilt. Having the rebuilt LSD is preferable to downgrading to an open diff, although that would be the cheaper option.
Chalk 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Alright. Thanks for that info. Does anyone know where i could get the lsd rebuilt around kerikeri then? I'm new to the place and have absolutely no clue... Cheers
bravo 35 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Scott Durnley (Waiapa Auto I think he call himself now) out at Waipapa is an e30 legend, or you could chop off your arm and maybe a leg too and go see Murdoch Motors BMW on corner Cobham Road and Mill Lane. You could try in at the Mercedes service agent on mill lane too, Scotty has been nothing short of amazing with me, he comes highly recommended, but may not be a diff specialist??
