Grant 4 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 The twice I have needed to take my car to a mechanic since I have been in Auckland I have taken it there. There service was very good, and their price reasonable. I would recommend them. Cheers
nath 134 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 jerry clayton (where my kar has been serviced from new) quoted me $850 for a regular service and cambelt. BMW Workshop quoted me $550 for the exact same thing, so im thinking they are good value, not to mention how nice i found the people there :thumb: :thumb: to BMW workshop
Gus 5 Report post Posted June 17, 2004 jerry clayton charges seriously nasty prices.....i can believe someone could ever charge something like $150 an oil change.....which is like a $40 cost in parts at trade and a double amputee ape could do..... Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 17, 2004 How does a quote of $450 for just the cambelt sound in the scheme of things, anyone???
Gus 5 Report post Posted June 18, 2004 sounds good.....check with someone that has actually had one done..but sounds goodish
nath 134 Report post Posted June 18, 2004 um i dont think it does sound good, altho i mite be wrong; but jerry craptons guessed about 350 for mine, although that mite not include all the rollers etc.....(ahhhh i just realised mine is a 316i- so it prob only applies to 316i's and 318i's) but i think you will find a belt is the same to get replaced anywhere. petone 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2004 (edited) M10's have a chain but I pretty sure that M20's have belt. That right?? Also what do the Welly guys think of Shelly BMW? I haven't had any work done there but their parts prices and people seem to be quite good in there Edited June 18, 2004 by petone

I was about to say thats criminal even quoting you to replace the cambelt you don't have hah. Also Bavarian Motors LTD is very good - he built my 325 and preps a lot of the Targa cars.. the most famous one being Gerry Hodges Group N 6 series. Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 18, 2004 Also what do the Welly guys think of Shelly BMW? I haven't had any work done there but their parts prices and people seem to be quite good in thereShelly's is a BMW centre so they charge BMW centre prices. I've been getting my services done through them for the service record but if you can get other work done through someone else you can generally save a few bucks. It's also the same with parts cause getting original parts is a b*tch and expensive. bimmer boy 21 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 i asked for a quote from this place today -full service -fix the knocking sound (sway bar thing i think) so hopfully its withen budget cos id rather go to a bmw specialist than go to your avrage joe mechanic who could just f**k it up even more
Viking 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Shelly's is a BMW centre so they charge BMW centre prices. Not that all BMW center prices are bad. If your taking your car to one, get a BMWCC membership, cause I'm damn sure since I got one I've been undercharged more than I should have on various bits. Safe to say its definately more than paid for itself... several times over...

petone 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2004 Isnt a cam belt easy enough to change yourself? You'd have to be a pretty decent backyard mechanic to do it. Lot more to it than there seems. Unless you knew exactly what you were doing i'd just get someone else to do it.
Guest Zwilling Report post Posted June 20, 2004 I was on the understanding that replacing cam belts was a mission and a headache. Thanks for the peddle box tim, certainly was fun doing the whole "air gear change", accelerater peddle gave me grief, it's got glue on it right now so hopefully it'll be set for tomorrow. I'm also gonna have to tinker with the brake peddle. Took me 1/12 hours to get to Welly in the worst possible bloody weather so that was good timing. threeta 0 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 cam belt isn't that hard to do - follow the manual and remember the fan bolt is left hand thread. i should do some photos for the maintenance threads... Andteam mcmillan part prices aren't too bad - brake disks about $10 more than hi tech brake and clutch.
m325i 709 Report post Posted June 21, 2004 :thumb: BMWorkshop did my cam belt in my m325i about 3 months ago. They reckon im am the luckiest guy they have ever seen. They pushed it into the garage, (i thought it was overkill), then theyreckon cam belt just fell apart when they opened it. Cost me $340 and they did it in one day. Very pleased with their service, iwould also recommend them.
