moktar 7 Report post Posted May 26, 2008 Hey last night i was talking to a mate in Aussie Anyway he showed me hoe to do the "E36 self test" heres an explanation: If you press the trip odometer button and turn the ignition key to accessory position and release the button you get some interesting diagnostic codes and a full instrumentation test of the VDO gauges and the LEDs Heres what they mean: 1st display: BMW PART NUMBER (6 digits) (my buddy thought it would be funny to tell me that this was ACTUAL kms that the car has done 360260kms i nearly died) 2nd display: CODE NUMBER (5 digits) Internal Coding Plug # 3rd display: K NUMBER (4 digits) 4th display: CHASSIS NUMBER (5 digits) this is part of your VIN 5th display: SOFTWARE VERSION (3 digits) 6th display: REVISION INDEX (2 digits) Hardware # Have fun! I thought I'd been fooled and my car had been wound back! I like the new lip and exhaust, personally prefer the amber lights as they were originally as they kind of look dirty now.
