I was thinking that. Looks light a pre f/l lip modded to fit f/l valance and then painted. The boot lip spoiler has been painted also.

Shiny paint job, but pretty acerage looking e30 otherwise - check out those exhaust tips!!!!

Easy to colour the lights red, you can get a translucent red paint from certain hardware stores used for staining glass, I think I got mine from one of the Mitre10 megas in Auckland.

Make sure the lens is clean before you apply it, mask off the areas you don't want to paint, clean with meths then spray. Finish off with a clear. Did my touring lights with it came out ok..

Don't know what lip that is though.

wow ive never thought of that. quick google found this page: http://www.e28.de/e28.de/b/main-bilder-exoten.htm

apparently they were never put into production, just custom aftermarket ones were made by a dutch company and who knows else. Check out the e28 camper at the bottom lol

This probably sounds a bit blonde but...

Wouldnt all red lights be illegal? Dont you have to have yellow or orange flashing light for indicator?

Does an orange bulp still show orange through a red tint?

Just a thought...

I dont think the colour matters as Ive seen plenty of cars from the US with all red lights and red indicators and there are god knows how many holdens out there with indicators that are more white than orange.

It is however illegal to put any tint on the lense. Ive known some people to get caught out by it, but Ive not had it even questioned where i get my WOF'd

theres a line on a site I read, I believe Bravo posted the link it mentions in the heading under "repeaters" something like. light from the rear must either emmit either Amber or Red, cant quite remember, have printed out the particular sheet and keep it in my glove box just for good measure lol.

In terms of a WOF in NZ:

"A Direction indicator lamp must emit a light that is substantially:

a)White or Amber to the front

b)Red or Amber to the rear

c)Amber to the side. "

Thats straight out of the LTSA WOF Vehicle Inspection Requirements Manual.

So shes all good to have red rear lights.... let the tinting begin!!

cheers guys,

now, the problem is taking the black tint out. A few people have recommended Acetone but I have also heard that it can damage the plastic. Any other suggestions?

Acetone would work but you need to be very careful with it, don't use any more than necessary and work quickly.

Another would be lacquer thinners, is less aggressive but again you need to use sparingly and work quickly.

Getting the stain out of the grooves across the lights will be tricky..

I use absorbant paper towel on a roll and change sheets regularly.

Will
