hybrid 1043 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Hey guys, Finally got around to building a ibus interface for the e46. Simply plugs into a laptop com port and using Jochens software NavCoder you can log all transmitted ibus traffic. Here is a sample of me starting my car. Blanked out my GPS co-ordinates for obvious reasons 3/29/2008 9:55:40 PM: GT --> IKE : Device status request 3/29/2008 9:55:40 PM: IKE --> GLO : Device status ready 3/29/2008 9:55:45 PM: IKE --> GLO : Device status ready 3/29/2008 9:55:46 PM: NAVE --> TEL : Telephone data: Current_network_request Count_0 3/29/2008 9:55:46 PM: NAVE --> TEL : Telephone data: Current_phone_status Count_0 3/29/2008 9:55:50 PM: GT --> DSP : Device status request 3/29/2008 9:55:51 PM: LKM --> GLO : Light dimmer, Data="FF 3F FF 00" 3/29/2008 9:55:56 PM: NAVE --> TEL : Current position: xx°xx'xx.x"S xx°xx'xx.x"E 3/29/2008 9:55:56 PM: NAVE --> TEL : Current location: Town = N.-CASTOR BAY 3/29/2008 9:55:56 PM: NAVE --> TEL : Current location: Street = BRAEMAR RD; hybrid 1043 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 This is only a taste of whats possible .. Brendon and I think will be making up ibus connectors / interface if there is any interest You can code most things that are connected to ibus. It wont code your engine as this is on a different canbus system / network. However you can code things like the LCM (light control module), nav unit, clock, TV etc etc.

hybrid 1043 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 haha ... yeah its really chatty .. when you un-lock / lock doors it gives you full read outs of this.. When you open anything it will return whats open. When turn your lights on it displays any faults or if you on high beam etc etc .. you get the picture .. anything you do in the car it will log. jochen 4 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Hi, I used my NavCoder interface on my E39 V8, and drove to work Afterwards, I plotted the trip in Excel and graphed the engine warmup curve, and the stop-start drive vs RPM Very interesting :-) PS: a few more logging details added, especially with regards to vehicle coding type, and a few bugs fixed. I'll release the next version tonight Still working on adding more LCM features, although these are only valid for E38/E39 at the moment, until I can breakdown the E46 data I always wondered if I should add a KML Google Earth file format, so that you can then load your trip into Google Earth and see location, speed, RPM, etc :-) Regards, your friendly NavCoder Author

jochen 4 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 I have built the interface and fully connected it to the car with no luck, i only ever recieved one message about the lights being ok, but nothing else works. switch the car to Pos 1 etc, nothing. The car is EX jap, does this matter? Jap car databus is the same as Euro car, no change there The unregistered NavCoder will also work Common problems people make with interfaces: 1. Poor Ground. Ensure the interface is grounded to the vehicle metal body - I use any convienient unpainted metal bracket in the region of the radio / CD changer 2. Interface hardware error Some people make the interface wrong, and fit diodes or transistors incorrectly. Triple check your interface
