It's quite simple, remove old chip, insert new one, start car and let it idle for 10 minutes for the ECU to read new chip and off you go,simple as that. You could get the fuel ratio/air reset to 14/1 but other than that, nothing.I have for 2 years now, used 3 rated chips in my E30 and this is the cheapest way to get extra hp/nm.don't by from the UK,give me a phone call as i can help you out with one,if you are interested.

Hi it's Phil here, tell me what is your e30?Is it a 320i or 325i and what year is it?Also is it Motronic ECU as Jetronic ignition can't be chipped and we will take it from there, cheers Phil.

All 325's moronic, 2 different versions.

Preface lift Motronic 1.1

Face lift Motronic 1.3

(Jetronic is 320's and 318's (m10 atleast not sure about m40, note that later 320's were also equipped with motronic)

Yours being pre facelift is Motronic 1.1, unless im missing something.

Edit: Spelling

Motronic 1.1 has NO oxygen sensor, and 2 gearbox sensor pickups.

where Motronic 1.3 has an oxygen sensor and no gearbox pickups.

OT: is it preferable to dyno your car and sending the dyno sheet to the chip maker before ordering?

Some 86 325i came with motronic 1.0 (double row ECU plug) and there is no chips avaliable for them AFAIK.

We converted my mates 325 with 1.0 to 1.3 and chipped it with a Jim Conforti chip, made a huge difference.

Easyiest way to check to see if it is 1.0 or 1.1/3 is to unplug the ECU and see how many rows of pins there is.

3 rows = 1.1/1.3

2 rows = 1.0

If it is 1.1 or 1.3 you are good to go and just stick a chip in it.

If it is 1.0 you will need to convert it, which needs:

1.1 / 1.3 engine harness

1.1 / 1.3 ECU

Front toothed crank wheel

VR sensor

injector harness

rewire the oil level sensor (simple, it just has different plugs on the new harness) alternatively you could get a facelift sensor.

and a few other things I might have forgotten. if your car is auto and has the transmission ECU it wont work and will be stuck in limp mode. Unless you figure out how to wire it up, I gave it ago at the time but didnt have the ECU pinout the for auto trans ECU. In the end we just converted it to manual

Most of them are a waste of money. If not all. The best way it to tune your car on a dyno with somebody who has the equipment to tune your ECU (like Gavin Bellars @ Hi Velocity)

If you can get it done cheap (ie, less than $100) its well worth it.

Id never pay the $400+ they ask for a original chip
