mackt 1 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 I was just looking on TM and there's a '96 540i with an original sale price of $157K! Now going for $12k. So that means its lost $145K over 12 years or $12 000 per year - ouch... Anyway does anyone know how to find out NZ sale price of our cars when they were new?? briancol 3 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 If you buy a book called "Ident-a-car" price about $70.00 that gives you the new prices and variants of every model car sold new in NZ. I have the book (every car dealer should have a copy) so if anyone wants to know the new price of their car, then post it here and I will endeavour to answer it. Apex 693 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 If you can afford the depreciation it’s not a problem. It’s the price you pay to have the latest and greatest. There is a notable difference between brand new and 20,000km… Also I have NZ car magazines for every month from the last 20years (and older) in my shed, they all have prices in them. bmw.maniac 1 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 I have a price list from BMW NZ dated 8/3/1988 somewhere. I'll post it up when I find it.

That's why there is NO money in cars, for 157k in 96 you could have bought 2 x 1brm b/t flats, today they would be worth 400k.Whats more, you would have bought the flats with a small deposit & borrowed the rest.Say the deposit was 50k of your own money, you would have turned that 50k into 400k, 350k profit, tax free.Need i say more. Back in 1989 when i was buying new/ish, E34 525i 100k, 12mths old 85k, new 535ise 135k, sport (is) was maybe 10k more?
ThreeOneEight 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 Sometimes it's nicer to have heated buffalo hide seats, than to deal with petty tenants. Keep buying new cars, you wonderful fat cats, so that we may continue to run them into the ground in twenty years time!

ThreeOneEight 0 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 316i's famously started at $39,995 (with absolute bugger all spec)- the 'under $40k BMW'- quite a few ads for them in old car magazines. Options seem to be where BMW make their money... you could probably have specced one up to $60k if you were keen!

bmw.maniac 1 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 And in 1991 the average house price in Auckland was around $120,000. In today's dollars the 750iL would cost a grand total of $386019, and that was without options!!!! Inflation Calculator
Palazzo 477 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 Hilarious. My M325i was first regoed that month, with leather and aircon it must have been $90k + and the convertible was 4 months old, with Mtech bodykit and 15" weaves for $95k +? How the pricey have fallen.
