WTB: E36 steering rack

Recommended Posts

As above, want to buy a E36 steering rack for my race car. Just a standard one will do, don't think I can afford a M3 or Z3 rack.

Looking for a good condition one, as I need it to handle race conditions.

Have a disc rear end and a coupla diffs/auto sportshift gearbox (E30)? That can maybe be swapped for the E36 rack?

Sorry to hijack your WTB listing mate - But whats the advanage in running a E36 Steering Rack? Are the E30 tierods and ends interchangeable?

Cheers,

Matt

Less turns lock to lock. Turning ratio in the e30 is 4:1 in the e36 its 3.5:1 in the '95 M3 it's 3.25:1.

Apparently they are...either way, I'm sick of pretending I'm a bus driver.

Oops, sorry just saw the replies to this thread. I'm having a quick look for a Z3 rack or post '97 E36 rack. If not I'll give you guys a call.

Cheers,

Jonathan

edit: found this

I have found a bunch of differing opinions on the E36 racks, so I decided to ask BMW.

This was their reply:

Vehicle-------------------------Steering Ratio-----Turns (Lock-to-Lock)

1995 M3------------------------variable – 17.6:1---mean 3.0

1995 and 1996 - other 3 Series--16.8:1-------------3.4

1997 3 Series-------------------15.4:1-------------3.4

1996 and on M3-----------------variable 15.6:1 mean

1996 Z3------------------------13.9:1-------------2.75
