nath 134 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 e46 328ci is starting to make odd tick noises intermittently in the engine almost like a solenoid is coming on and then going off.... car runs and drives fine etc.... any way to test or check? or can ya tell at all if it is faulty? isis 16 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Vanos units can be serviced - have done so with an M50 If you grab a screw driver and placed your ear onto it and if you hear a grinding sort a noise - its buggered. It's more likely not to be the Vanos unit. The crankcase ventilator valves give alot of problems and this can also cause the Disa valve to rattle in the plenum chamber. It could also be an idler or tensioner for the drive belts. Get it checked by someone that knows what they are doing. Dont know anyone in Dunners though.
