Cale 36 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 So I was wondering how many Bimmersporters are going to play Lotto this weekend, seems a good time to ask as it is a record $24,000,000 jackpot! I have worked out the odds of winning: 49!/6!(40!-6!) * 10 = 38,383,800 So if odds are 1 in 38,383,800 and you buy one ticket a week, theoretically you will have to wait 738150 years to win! Although I will be buying one as I would happily recieve 24 big ones in my bank account, no matter how much tax would be deducted. Imagine 1.5mil interest P.A.! Cale 36 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Was a response to the original post Or Just spend $42222180 to guarantee yourself a slice You have to get 6 numbers right out of 40, then independently get 1 of the 10 numbers drawn for powerball. So if odds of that are 1 in 38,383,800 then you play that many times per week, then only theoretically you will win. 738150 years because 38,383,800/52 weeks equals 738150. Jeddy 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 You are probably right, its too late to think Doesn't each line come with its own powerball number? Your correct that there is 38,383,800 different combinations but when you buy a dip you get 10lines/chances/odds(usually) so just devide it by 10. Oh yup, cheers Jeddy. NZ Herald still gives $38.4mil mind, though they are sensationalists. Yeah, just seen no tax on winnings, though you still pay tax for anything else you decide to do afterwards. Could always hide it in the attic.

M325is 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Somebody has to win the money, it can't keep going up can it? Does it have a cap on it? I think at least 6 people will win the big one, which then would be divided, but even if I won 1Mil i'd be happy. I'm going to buy my first ticket in years for this draw. How much are they now days? $5???

jjs 64 Report post Posted October 7, 2008 Indeed. Been in since it was on 8mil! Gotta be into win! I have been getting tickets latley. I'm going to buy my first ticket in years for this draw. It never ceases to amaze me that people who don't buy lotto tickets rush out and buy them when the jackpot is huge. You would spend $11 for a chance of winning $24m, but wouldn't spend the same amount for a chance of winning $2m? Last week Lotto sales were 30% higher than average, diminishing your chances being the lone jackpot winner even more. The smart people must only buy them in "normal" weeks.
