Young Thrash Driver 1020 Report post Posted October 25, 2008 Ok, so the Holden thirty-eight hundred is a cheap, basic pretty easy to work on unit, but it's also a heavy, underpowered dinosaur. What the hell is wrong with some people... I'll bet its an absolute pig to drive, even if it has slightly easier to access torque than an M50 2.5/ M52 2.8 (the conversion I'd consider) Still... at least it isn't a rotary
Palazzo 479 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Funny, I'm pretty sure the early 3.8 motors had the same power as a 325i, no doubt more torque, but they are coarse and sound like absolute crap when revved. Good on him for trying though.
CamB 48 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 For all that effort I reckon a Lexus V8 could have got in there. Then it would have been badass (even with an auto).
tibbs.james 1 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I do agree CamB ( especially after going in Rileys Car ) but at least he didn't modify up a really nice 2 door 325i For all we know he had the car given to him with a blown motor and already had the Holden donk sitting there in his garage.... So if it goes better than a 318i auto hasn't he done well by default ? Isn't there a supercharged version of that Holden 3.8 ?

Guest SamSpargo Report post Posted October 28, 2008 The new DOHC V6 will bolt right up to that conversion. That would be a worthwhile swap.
