Spotted: Bmw Z1

Recommended Posts

Spotted a boston green Z1 on Parnell Road yesterday. I didn't realise there were any of these in NZ. Anyone know much about it?

Not my cup of tea, but a very rare car.

I remember going to a function at BMW NZ in the early '90s and sitting in a Z1 on display. Maybe 1992 or 1993? The evening was a BMW motorcycle club event, so we didn't spend a lot of time talking about cars that night....anyhoo, I seem to recall that car being green. Still, that was a long time ago.

I really really want to S50B32 a Z1.

They're for all intents and purposes, a rebodied E30.

What a silly looking car!

I think green one has something like 10 or 20 thousand kms....

I think rear suspension is actually closer to E36 isn't it? First use of the Z arm design.

Anyone know if they're 4 or 5 lug?

I've seen pictures of both 4 and 5 lug Z1's. I would assume they came in 4 lug like e30's, and the 5 lug ones i've seen have been converted.

It is based on the e30 though. At least thats what everything i've ever read about the Z1 has said.

The Z1 rear brakes are an upgrade for E30's, which would suggest they're 4 lug.

Essentially a 4 lug E30 M3 sized rear setup.
