Young Thrash Driver

Police Rant

Recommended Posts

The point about the escort is valid, it would hold up in a crash better than a brand new wrx, but the driver sure as hell wouldnt.

The reason modern cars crumple like tin cans is to absorb the force of the crash, the extremely well built and solid escort would transfer all this force straight into your seatbelt and through your body, liquifying your internal organs. The WRX however would crumple, absorb the impact and you would be far more likely to walk away with only minor injuries...

In a demolition derbi, sure pick the solid old cars, but in real life i prefer them soft and safe....

Dammit!! I thought I'd seen that link somewhere before....

About Possum, I thought he wasted himself somehow... well, guess I can always use Peter Brock as an example :P

1 vote for oldskool and Silver Fox as transport ministers! I like the idea of better driver training, and I think its a shame the ProDrive course isnt govt backed. I'll go so far as to say that if it (ever) comes in, I wouldnt mind cutting up my licence and starting over. A bit of extra knowledge hasn't killed too many people.

However, the govt doesnt see the need for more capable drivers, I guess. Too hard basket maybe?

Hey, I'm not complaining coz I've bought our cops so many donuts, I've had 3 tickets which maybe would have got me half a stainless exhaust. I'm just having a cry because I don't like the idea of more cameras. Seriously... look at how miserable the poms are :P:lol:

Thing that pisses me off isnt the cameras but rather how they keeping saying its about safety rather revenue.

Why else would you put officers and cameras at the end of passing lanes just to catch some chap doing 120kph or a bit over trying to pass.

Of course its about more revenue, they are just trying to justify themselves in more speed cameras.

IMO, one will have a higher chance of survival in a late model Japanese car as opposed to an old escort- it obvious. Technology has not gone backwards yet.

I think driving faster rather than slower (not over the limit mind) is a lot safer as I am more alert and stimulated when I am actively involved in the driving. If people are naturally crap, uncoordinated drivers, make them sit a test, if they fail- no liscence. It will put more people in public transport and lower fatalities and crash rates.

Ok Escort Vs WRX in a crash

Somebody find example of an escort crashing at 120kmh, then somebody find an example of a wrx crashing at 120kmh. you better make sure the cars cars into the same object in the same conditions on the same road for a fair and direct comparison.

If nobody can do this stop talking rubbish about who thinks what about different cars from different era's, unless you have suitable experience or knowledge comparing either does not help anybody int his topic.

So speed cameras...

There might be more of them soon and yes its frustrating .....so what ?

Don't speed and don't waste your money on fines, If you get done for speeding bad luck.

Bring on Better driving training and better attitudes and more respect as mentioned earlier in the thread.

The one figure that we havent looked at is injuries from road accidents and permanent damage, these I have no doubt will be up dramatically, because whilst newer vehicles have a greater ability to disapate kinetic energy away from the passenger cell & airbags are huge in reducing the impact loads, as far as I am aware the human body hasnt evolved to the same extent and is still pretty crap at dealing with sharp & solid objects conecting with it at high speeds.

I doubt they would be up - the amount of thought now put in to design of interiors etc to be more "friendly" during a crash has to help. Examples off the top of my head

- generally all cars now have headrests, so whiplash/neck broken over the seat back should have dropped

- much more thought put into preventing pedal box from smashing ankles, dash board and steering column from smashing knees

- much higher likelihood of having inertia reel seatbelts (often x5) rather than lap belts only/sap sash but with manual adjustment of length

Incidentally, if you want to reduce your risk of permanent disability in a car crash you should have the smallest possible amount of crap hanging from your car key. Saab put the key in the centre console to avoid having heavy bunches of keys impaling into kneecaps during a crash.

Regarding Escort vs Impreza, I have no doubt that I'd feel much less sore after crashing the Impreza than the Escort

Ta Nic,

Pointing out the obvious re new cars, the bottom line is due to the advances made with new vehicles far more people are surviving accidents they would not have in the past ergo we have lower fatality rates, higher injury rates & please spare me having to go into the obvious in relation to cost of care, rehabilitation, benefits etc, etc.

The human body is not built or wired to handle or deal with fast moving objects, safe to say the most unstable & falible thing in most vehicles is the soft squashy thing behind the wheel.

Once we eliminate that, no more deaths on the road, except when the computer crashes & sends us of the highway, cause then will probably be programing error.................Ha

Bored now, next subject someone please.

Big deal, but where did I say that I was a race driver, This thread has nothing to do with race driving, if you remember it was about speed cameras and they are on the public roads, and thats where these Playstation trained drivers are driving, not on a race track

I think it is relevant as there are jack sh*t professional race car drivers in NZ, most of their skills are from experiences driving on our roads. So figured race series stats would prove the young are not always the dumb as you are implying.

As for what flowers I'd like on my coffin that is such a low blow, you just don't say that sh*t Brian.

Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down

Never gonna run around and desert you

Never gonna make you cry

Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
