Reving Porblems

Recommended Posts

I had this ticking noise in my engine I could hear then it stopped after about 15 seconds, a couple of days had passed without it doing it. And now when in first gear it revs up to 2,5 somethime 3,000rpm before it chages gear. All the other gears are fine its only first gear, also when first turned on it revs from 1000rpm up to 1500rpm then back to 1000rpm then up again then down. It does this a couple of times before it stops around 1000rpm.

Also between charing from 1st and 2nd from 25, to 3000rpm it revs but does not seem like its pushing the car/moving it faster. Feels like putting your foot on the clutch and reving it then charging gear. Hope you can understand that part.

Its a 1989 E30 320i Auto.

Someone Please Help...

Not sure about the ticking as Idon't think you have given enough details, but you have a problem with your auto trans. If you are lucky, you may find a service and adjustment of the belts inside the trans will have you right - worst case scenario you are looking at a new trans.

Take it to a specialist bmw dealer or an auto trans dealer for an appraisal.

I'd have to hear the noise before commenting. However the other problem relating to the trans...I suggest you get it checked by a professional. Sounds very much like the trans has an internal problem.
