Before you do anything silly, have a chat with Ian (Hartage) as he has some Hartge headers on his beast that he's thinking of using as a template to copy...would be very very usable :)

found these made by Motorsport Development (Wellington?) but the guy is in Aus for 3 weeks so no indication of price as yet.. Hartage if your keen to use yours as a template maybe we could organise a few sets if there are others interested?

In my time, I've had three sets of custom headers (and exhaust) made - 325i / 2002tii / M3. B1tch of a job, so I paid through the nose for them. Being technically retarded, you will need to call Graeme Clyde at GAC in CHC to find out more / get further guidance, although I know they were all even / tuned length jobs out of stainless steel.

What kind of differnece are we talking here?

Difference between what, the standard exhaust manifold and tuned headers???... realistically it depends on your exhaust setup but you could expect something between 5-10 horsies (6cyl) and 25-50 Nm as headers increase flow dramatically and bimmers like to breathe :D

Ian will tell you that his headers added something dramatic (and sounds wicked) after sticking his in. The BMW spec says the E30 323 stock has 129hp at the flywheel, Ian's is doing 129hp at the rear wheels with only headers and exhaust modifications so taking drivetrain loss into account that's quite significant gain considering it's 20+yrs old.

As for the difference between aftermarket headers...who knows, probably not a hell of alot...anyone want to venture a guess???

How much is through the nose?

was being figurative - paid by cash. I think $800 for the 2002 and closer, if not over $1,000 for the 325 and the M3 (the latter was a week's work). Damn nice though - M3 is Gruppe A replica (i.e. 2x2 headers).

Worth every cent!

I might sounds dumb here .... but are they also called extracters ?

Whats the difference if they are not extractors ?

Exhaust headers = exhaust extracters
or exhaust manifold.

headers is the main term used by most peeps nowdays

I was under the impression that manifolds are a cast solid piece while headers/extractors aren't.

The BMW spec says the E30 323 stock has 129hp at the flywheel, Ian's is doing 139hp at the rear wheels

That's sick!

I might need ot get in there. Extractors, cold air box (battery already in the boot), and some form of ECU upgrade.

Oh and a HD clutch.

Oh and maybe some sacking, and a short shift. um think thats all

Cold air = pointless on E30. They're a farily well designed system from factory. Better to spend coin on a MAF.

Not quite correct.

The 323i was 140 hp at fly wheel. We now have 139 at wheels.

You can tell the difference to drive. Also gave about 50 nm of torque. Thats the real gain.

Can you get a set of coby or similar headers for 325i?

How much would you be looking at$?

I need some as my exhauset manifold has a crack in it.

I dont want tuned length, titanium etc. just something to fix it.
