E46 M52 TU Shortie Header

Recommended Posts

Fitted and tested shortie header at Hi Velocity. Was hopeing for more gains but ecu retarding timing when hot. Need to Re-mapp. Around 7 RWHP gain [Auto]. Heaps more throttle response and around 1Ltr/100km fuel gain. Will post Dyno sheets when scanned.

Sweet, will need to Make sure its the right engine when it comes back from the body-shop early next week, the badge says 325 but its a 2000 so I think its supposed to be 323 which would be the M52 engine right?

If its the correct engine ill defiantly be keeeeen

Yes, you should have 2.5 eng. Just check you have mid mount cats.

Dyno figures for my shorties. Part to mid throttle driving much improved. Jap exhaust restricting top end I think.

Thanks Ron, I value your comments. Was hopeing for a little more as you do. The Jap E46 M52 cars have a very average post cat exhaust which I think is restricting top end . Hybrid had his exhaust modded and gained noticable top end power. I think re-mapp also. Who knows how imports are mapped?

The 328s average looking single pipe arrangement? You would think there was room for improvement there.

The 330s ,like Josh/Hybrids, are a twin pipe system from the factory. Could be an option to look at?

Josh's car has cat back fitted now, prior his car had same exhaust, twin from header back to cat, then merge in a crushed pipe arrangement into single out to tailpipe.

I hear you Ron and you make a lot of sense. To even get these headers to fit was a mission[rear section]. US speed shops selling them claim 8-10 eng HP, so my power is about right. They are a sport header and are priced to reflect that. The real plus I see now after 3 weeks driving is fuel saving and mid throttle power is way better. Really nice part throttle power.

Is it safe to assume this will give similar benefits on an E36 M52?

Running de-catted twin exhaust (stock).

If so, keen to buy a set to try and get extra HP :D

System is 3/2/1 Ron. Header tube dia is 35mm, runner length average maybe around 35cm.

There is a marked differance in head mount plate port size compared to OEM [as per pics].

As I said in the PM's Im getting about this. Im currently trying to sort out a few sensor related gremlins in my car before changing the exhaust system and introducing another varible.

I should have something sorted in the next 4 weeks going well. Sensors aren't the cheapest to replace in the e46 :(
