What is this in my exhaust tip?

Recommended Posts

It looks like a silencer or on closer inspection a butterfly valve?

Probably, opens in the higher rev's I'd say. Like my GTZ did

Seems to me it's a butterfly valve, is this standard?

Yes its standard...closes off one exhaust port to stop low speed noise. If you change the rear muffler, just put a small ball bearing in the vacuum hose to block it or else you'll end up getting an engine fault code

Oh ok, how can I test that it works?

Yup looks like the butterfly valve found on some e46's

e46fanatics

Its used to soften down the tone of the exhaust unfer 4k revs then it opens up

Car needs to be moving... controlled by DME which needs a speed sensor signal

Before I read any of the other posts, I thought that it looked like an extra exhaust tip had been welded to the back of the muffler to make it look like a twin, but the valve thingy makes more sense haha...
