crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) Whent and test drove the "E30DET" it's actually a sh*t load nicer in the flesh. The car is not mint and needs a fair bit of minor jobs to get it running properly. - No heater, he suspects it's something to do with the looming setup but seems to think it's no biggie to get done. - Engine stalls sometimes at low revs, apparently due to faulty BOV. - Did not really give the car a good kick but I can imagine it has the power. - Engine bay looks very well done and seems like he did a good job with the conversion. - Few electrics are a bit dodge, like you have to open up the driver door to work the passenger window lol. All in all it's a car that needs work but has huge potential. He seems to be firm on $8,500 and I am thinking a mint Tech-II will be the better buy considering all this car has going for it is the engine + cert. Bog standard 318 shell, with nice (but unsuitable) STI interior. If he is willing to budge on the price, it's definitely a big contender... I can just imagine how cool this car could be. The hunt continues! Edited June 15, 2009 by crazyarab

crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 15, 2009 (edited) I have a friend at nzefi and he said its very easy to get 300hp out of them mmm, Gaz is running 200kw at the wheels... Pretty good for some light mods + dyno tune. Thats more than my old M3... alot more actually (I ran 175kw)! Kinda angry now.. whats up with that sh*t gaz Mind you, you have to boost the tits off them to get that sort of power. Won't last long on the track running that psi. Considering I have already bought some mags, did a quick photoshop to see how it would look on the DET. Even with a bland body, still looks pretty cool imo . Amazing what a nice set of rims can do. Haha yea but like you said, under 3500rpm, there's nothing haha. Well considering you already brought some mags, I'd say its a done deal then

crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) This guy claims it had a factory LSD. Considering it's a 318i, I would assume the diff came open from factory? Well that is what I have read anyhow.. Wikpedia article Anyone confirm this? Edited June 16, 2009 by crazyarab
Mark 178 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 Won't have an LSD from factory on the 318i. He could mean that he's put a factory BMW LSD in the car. If it still has the puny 318 suspension setup that'll need to be looked at too. IMO: Don't do it ATTA! An E30 deserves to have a straight six in it or a V8... not a sneezing Nissan four pot! Don't worry Mark, I am considering all the angles. These engines produce more than enough power for an E30 shell and almost double what you can expected from a stock 325 so it's hardly as puny as you make it out to be He has done a really good job with the conversion and I have plenty of ideas into how I can make this car look the part. Main problem is the asking price, simply too high for me to justify taking on the project as it's not going to be cheap! But yeh, I promise whatever car I take on I will make sure to rep the Chch members well so you will have to just trust me ! Be damned if I let a crappy car wear the CRZARB plate! crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) PLUS ONNNEEEEE! Are you suuuure... Before & After pics But yeh, I know what you guys are getting at with the engine. I had some bad experiences in the past when I was looking to buy a turbo. Drove several pulsar GTI-R's and they just felt like they struggled to get the power out. They were fast and everything but just not the same as the inline-6 (at the time I was comparing it to my mates GTS-4 skyline which was the same speed but just felt so much more effortless. Gaz 1056 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 IMO Atta, if you want a e30 then you can't go passed Ex-HellBM's touring or Andre3000s 325i. If you want a ca18det, then buy mine and I'll buy one of those e30s
crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) Haha soz gaz, E30 is my passion at the moment. But yeh, I am spoiled for options now so just a matter of test driving the lot and see which is "the one". Maan lol, doing that photoshop mockup makes me want to build that car up so bad now.
