E30 Chips

Recommended Posts

Was looking at getting a chip for my ecu.. THe claims seem unbelievable to tell you the truth +12 bhp and another +15 - 18 bhp.. They are pretty cheap, about $75 to get them to NZ.

Does anyone have them in NZ ? do they work ?

Here are the links:

You get what you pay for.

It is possible to realise more gains from your engine with an ecu remap (basically what these chips are), but all these chips do is raise the rev limit, and alter the fuel mixture to elicit some some gains in expense for fuel economy.

In reality, you run the risk of doing damage to your engine for possibly no gains.

If you buy a reputable chip you can at least expect that you won't cause damage, but even then, some of the claims can be a little unbelievable.

Best bang for buck?? Pay a professional to dyno-tune your car and remap/chip your ecu with a custom remap. Will cost 5-6 times the cost of one of these chips, but the gains will be worth it and your engine will be safe.

Bravo is totally right... but if I may add one other point to that: Every engine, even if they're the same and built in the same factory, is slightly different. Different tolerances, slightly different power output etc. The Ebay chips (and most aftermarket chips) are reproductions of one car's successful ECU remap. Take into account that most of these chips are reproduced in America, where the octane ratings of fuel are far different to what we get here and you see that piggybacking a "one-size fits all" chip onto your ECU is not a very good idea.

A good remap done on a dyno by a professional will cost you about $1000. But you're far more likely to gain that 15-20bhp, and in a manner safe for your particular engine.
