camera doctor 25 Report post Posted July 23, 2009 My Pug 206 GTi has been in NZ for nearly Four years now, was Vinned by VINZ locally, and has had all it WOF's there since. This week, they tried to fail it because it had 'braided brake hoses' These were on it when it came into NZ, when THEY inspected and Vinned it !! Aparently there are cheapo lines out there with screwed in ends - they made me take one of the lines off to prove it had swaged ends. So I guess what I am saying is beware, don't fit cheapo ones, or you will be refused a WOF, or worse if they fail and cause a crash, the Insurance inspector may refuse claim?? User Name 19 Report post Posted July 23, 2009 Dont get me started with WOF crap i had to get my e28 re registered and WOf - passed fine - then next time i went geuss what they had forgot to note that the ABS was taken out when last certered and brake system changed to vaccum cause of couple of issues, after just about beating the guy that entered the stuff in the computer before asking - even though it was the same place that registered it. got pinged with $350 for a cert for my brakes and the guy didnt even test them foot on brake didnt go down that was it, they are sposed to do a 100-0 stop tests and told the guy "you F*k my car you can by me a new one, think he didnt want to take a chance that it crashed and would have to give me a new car - had a nice V8 sitting in the garage lolz make it clean but used thats the theroy

camera doctor 25 Report post Posted July 24, 2009 only buy braided brake hoses with a certification sticker on them. That's right Ollie - but my gripe is that mine had tags! And they are known brand - Goodridge Oh well, just hope the Monkeys put a note in their computer so I don't have to do this each 6 months!

*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted July 24, 2009 yeah i'm fed up with the retards that work at WOF stations. +1.. not being racist, but I have difficulty even holding a conversation with half off them. Gone are the days when they write... play in L/H outer tie rod end... play in R/H wheel bearing... worn bush in L/H top suspension arm. Now all you get is ....remedy play in L/H front suspension... the idiots can't even identify the component theyre failing it on. And some dont even know L/H from R/H... on the sheet its written L/H side... and they mark the fault with yellow crayon on R/H side

kiwi535 538 Report post Posted July 25, 2009 i think this has changed recently. My new(to me) bike has got a warrant but the guy that checked it for me(pre purchase) said it should not have got a warrant because of the braided brake hose on it.

No it's not new. I had a WoF inspector threaten to fail my old ZX7R on the basis it had braided lines without any approval markings (this was 2004). Unluckily for him, I pointed out his ignorance of the approval markings stamped on the lines that he had failed to see during his 'inspection' and flat refused to ever use OnRoad again. Mike 1 Report post Posted July 26, 2009 thats stupid, mine came factory fitted with braided hoses. haven't had any problem with them but would be furious if someone twit did pick on them
JiB 0 Report post Posted July 26, 2009 When doing my Auth Card and Cert, Neil Fraser said he didn't need to put the braided lines on either, but because a lot of people have been failed (incorrectly) on them he put them on both my cert and auth car to save hassle!
