Driftit 2078 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 Hey guys. Scanned my brothers 728 to see why his ABS lights were coming on and it looks like he has some faulty Wheel Speed Sensors. So will replace them soon. Here is the codes. 041 Wheel Speed, rear right 019 ASC monitoring 038 Wheel Speed, front left Now ASC is of course the traction control. Would this be caused by the faulty Wheel speed sensors? Or is this a complete differant unit? They all came at once. Just want to make sure. Was using a X431 Diagnostic tool. Had a very similar problem, and fault codes on my old mans e38 728i, turned out it was the secondary abs pump needed reconditioning. Since thats been done the abs/traction lights have never come back up.
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 Dan, I doubt very much that it is the speed sensors. Before you spend any money, I'll check it for you (free) Did you check ABS live data ? and did you check wheel speed readings ? These must be checked from 0-30kph What fault codes were in DME & EGS ? I've said this many times on here..... a scan tool is just a tool and faults indicated by the tool may not necessarily be the fault. They may be the result of something else. I would suspect the ABS control unit to be at fault , not the speed sensors, especially with the ASC monitoring fault code coming up.
BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 i second that . i had a 99 540iT it had a abs light issue .fault codes came up as faulty wheel sensor. turned out to be be dry/bad joints in the ABS control circuit board mounted to the abs pump . i had mine repaired by guy who specialises in doing car electronics . i still could drive the car around with out the control box on it . (just had no speedo) i have some earlier abs pump modules from 96 528i 95 740i 96 540i if your brothers car is a early type
jochen 4 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Hey guys. Scanned my brothers 728 to see why his ABS lights were coming on and it looks like he has some faulty Wheel Speed Sensors. So will replace them soon. I bet he doesn't have faulty sensors Two wheel sensors don't fail at the same time And a failling ABS controller is very common Replace or resolder the ABS controller. That is highly likely the problem But as Glenn says, diagnose further using your head, not just a scanner.
