Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting some springs to lower the e28. Anyone know where I can get some in NZ? I have seen some on trademe previously, but none are on at the moment.

i have tried a couple of options in my M535i brands like J**** and H&*.

but be carfull most only lower it but not any stiffer spring rates etc.

ended up having to remove them .

i have bilstein shocks in there which have been stiffened up for track days etc .

and have e34 King springs in the front which weren't as low as the other e28 ones i tried which just slammed it but without anymore handling.

the e34 ones had a higher spring rate and didn't slam it as much either.

still got the e28 rear h&* type but have rings cut into the shockc so we can adjust the ride height .

pics attached

the J**** brand

then H&* brand

then the current set up i have with e34 kings in front and H&* rears

then the origanal std mtec option

Interesting. Thanks for that.

Do you have any springs available I could buy?

Hi mate, I had some Eibach Pro kit springs put on my M635csi that were superb. Anyway, once I bought them, I found that they were actually designated for E28's - I had to source some rear spring plates from a E28 to make it happen.

They are superb. However, hard to get. I ordered them through a independent BMW specialist in Melbourne. Cost like $500 NZ landed.

Don't know of any second had sets, but these are a revelation - lowers the stance and tightens the set up.

I had the sameproblem with my e28.

autolighn couldnt find anything at the time that would drop and inch or so and stiffen it up alittle.

and nothing else would fit.

ended up using a set of m-tech's and cut a coil or two off each one.then measuring/balance them

so they were even with each other.worked well.

droped 'bout 30mm and added 25% stiffer spring rate and still captive.

cheap mod

If you get really stuck, you might want to try K-MAC in Oz.

I'm struggling to locate M-Tech Springs (non-A/C height) for the E12, so when I came to looking for alternatives, there are very few listings - the best European Solution from from Fritz bits for Spax springs and it would have cost me over $1000 to land them here, and Spax wouldnt give any details on the springs.

K-MAC have springs for the older cars and if the worst come to the worst, they can custom make a spring for you.

They guessed that their standard lowered spring might be based on a M-Tech spring (or at least similar), and they are 30% uprated.

I've just ordered a set, $A210 per end + $A80 for freight.

Brent - if you read the Lovells catalog's recommendation about Super Low springs, they are for cosmetic purposes only - hence they drop the car, but have no improved handling advantages, I would guess that the same rule would apply to the other brands mentioned.

What was the name of the outfit in Melbourne? $500NZ sounds very reasonable considering.

When you say you used mtechs? You mean motorsport springs out of an e28? They would probably be quite hard to find in the first place. And where did you go to get them cut and balanced?

Last resort, that is getting a bit out of my price range for springs.. Thanks though.

auto leign siad next time they would just get some "dobi" springs and measure up to fit etc .

could be from anything as long as the diameter is right and the ride height and spring rate is what you want

Peninsula BM in Mornington Peninsula.

Ask for Heath from customer service (you can email them).

They were $500nzd 4 years ago though.
