Suspension advice

Recommended Posts

Right, have been thinking about some basic suspension options to improve the ride stance and give her a bit more of an aggressive look.

Thinking of getting these springs to lower the front a bit.

My assumption is that I don't need to change the shocks as it's not a very big drop. I guess the real question is can I get away with lowering the front slightly and leaving the rear as it is?

Logic tells me that this is probably not a good idea as I am assuming the cars center of gravity will be pushed forward which is not exactly the best thing for the track but I am thinking it would look pretty aggressive dipped a tad like that.

This is a first for me so feel free to flame / point me in the right direction.

Before / After.

2nd pics looks tough. Have heard bad things about king springs though. I run Cobra springs and they are fantastic and not expensive at all. They make them here in CHCH so you can choose your spring rate and height.

I've used Kings over in OZ on both an e30 n e36.

they were fine

those springs dont look like they're meant for the front, more like the rears..

Look like fronts to me, rears are Skinnier top and bottom and not as tall.

Id add a lil rake to the stance as you have shown, think they guys do it overseas quite a bit, looks tough as too!

Why not check out the springs and shocks from the E30 series? The 320i ones should be for the same weight and distribution as your m325i?

I've put King superlows on the front of the Schnizzle which have given it a bit more rake than your pic.Looks nice & aggressive.I really like a nose down atitude, hence my love affair with e38s & 39s haha.

The rear was already slighty lower than stock.

PS its not so low that speedies etc are a problem altho I'm a bit more careful now.

I used king springs in the 325 and had no problems with them what so ever. Not a huge drop but looked brilliant with the 16' Alpinas.

I have no problem recommending King springs having used them for 4 years now in E30 and E28 race cars. Excellent service and quality, and can't recall anyone having any problems with them in the race series.

Sounds good, and here I was thinking I was original going for the "rake" look

Just make sure you get 6 cylinder springs and not 4 cylinder. The TM auction says that they fit a BF mazda as well which would indicate to me that they are 4 cylinder springs.

Get some H+Rs or even vogtland springs from Keith. I have vogtland in mine and they are pretty good

Yeh, seller says they came off a 6 cylinder.

How much did the fronts set you back?

I know it all costs money but you Will love yourself if you go for some KONI adjustable shocks with the king springs.

I have king springs in my 300zx , they are fine.

I got a whole set for $280 so based on that logic they would be around $140

Shocks make the handling for sure. All springs are just wound steel, brand won't really matter (unless it's total crap) It's all about the rates, and stance in this case.

I would go H&R's along with the Koni adj shocks. But depends on how much you want to spend.

Transforms the car and handles superbly.

Saw the car in person tonight, looks fantastic.

Was that you that spotted me when I was turning out from the BP!?

Not too fussed about "uber" handling just yet, but definitely don't want to go backwards.

I have Bilstein shocks all around so it's not too bad as it is.

Which BP and when? was I in my car?

No this was tonight as I was walking home from dinner.

It was parked up in an undercover parking place (wont say where incase thats where you live)

Again looked fabulous, I drooled and couldn't stop looking at it.

Have got a front set of Vogtland springs, 40-50mm drop. $100 if you want them.

Ah, thats my workplace :P

Don't I need to change the shocks though for that much of a drop?

Edit: just got the old ruler out, and 30mm drop is ideal as it would make the front and rear gaps exactly the same. Anything more than 40mm is going to need some guard rolling and I would rather avoid that.

Nah, Don't need to shorten your shocks plus you've got Bilsteins anyway?

They are probably just 40mm but I got told 40-50mm,

You wouldn't need guard rolling at 50mm anyway..? They're cheap :P

Hmm, would be quite the "rake" with that much drop. Will think about it ;)

If you buy james' springs you wont need to roll the guards, Im on around 65mm drop at the front with 18s and its allgood.

As for the rake, just take out the rear spring pads to drop the rear down that little bit.

30mm Front. 15-20mm back. Stance is where its at.

I would try and get a pair of Eibach or H&R’s for the front. Maybe lower it 25-30mm.
