Dash and clock displays

Recommended Posts

Here's a screwy one in my 1994 e36 325i. The odometer and trip displays are so dim you can barely see them. They are still functioning in that the km's are increasing. All other dash functions are normal. The dash dimmer works fine. I've checked all of the fuses.

Also the time/date display in the check system (unit below the stereo) is doing the same thing, the time is barely legible. All of the other check displays appear to be working ok.

Any help would be appreciated.

My temp gauge and right hand half of the rev counter sometimes go really dim ... I just give the dash a quick tap and it's fine again for a while lol :)

Pull cluster and replace bulbs.

Pull out OBC (check control) and replace bulbs.

The bulbs differ according to the manufacturer of the OBC and cluster (BMW used a few different companies over the production period of the E36), you have to use the right ones or they won't work. The bulbs and holders cost about $8 each from the dealer.

There will be DIY's on the net on how to do both jobs. The OBC is easiest.
