Tyre Profile

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

On a 16" wheel how low is too low if you know what i mean!

Going on a 9" wheel, would there be enough rubber on a 215/35 tyre?

And would a 190/35 even support a 7.5 wide wheel well?

Keeping in mind my E30 may become my daily driver!

Any knowledge would be appreciated

Cheers

215/35/16 is way too small. You have to be within 5% of the original size.

So if you want a 215 it should be 215/50/16

or 215/45/16 if they're available.

The aspect ratio is a ratio, not a height. ie a 35 sidewall is 35% of the tyre width.

So a 215/35 is 75mm high, and a 195/35 is only 68mm high.

195/35/16 is WAY too small.

on a 7.5" rim with stock power I'd go the 215/50/16 if it were me.

Stock size is 195/65/14.

My 17's are 205/45/17 and are the correct size.

Have a play on this site. Choose a size that is within 5% of stock.

What I'm running on my 16x9s, but to be honest, you kind of get over tyre strecth. By the next time I get new tyres I'll get some work done on my guards and run at least a 225.

Not sure what Riley's using? but he has a PFL with higher rear guards.

I wouldnt go any smaller than 225/45/16s on 16x9s, it looks better and give the wheels a little more "give" on bumpy roads. BUT you wont fit them on a F/L so you might have to go for a 215/45/16, and 205/45/16 on the front

haha not yet, but im seriously thinking about it..i dont think the fact its a 1 peice wheel makes it any more likely to be damaged on nz roads over a 3 peice...are you getting them?

I have 235 on an 8" wide rim, so with 9" wide I would want 245.

Hey,

On my e46 I had 235/45/r18 on the rear with a 9.5" rim and 225/45/r18 8.5" rim on the front. I found the 45 so much nicer to drive on than a 35 profile (on previous car) especially on NZ roads!

Keeping some height in the tyre you can get away with stretching it on the rim and the side wall looks really good with a bit of meat in it. and also keeping it within the 5% of standard...
