Carburettor specialists?

Recommended Posts

I have a Corolla 1.3 2E as run about and it’s playing up big time, I have taken it to Papakura Toyota them being specialists and all and they can’t fix the problem, it has had a full rebuild less than 10,000km ago and was running fine up until lately.

Can any recommend a someone that is skilled in the ancient art of Corroboration that will be able to fix it.

Locally would be a plus. Im in South Auckland.

Thanks Braeden, I was just asking in hope someone might actually know someone who is good, I have spent over 2k on the mechanicals with a few places thus far and it’s still not running correctly!

Apparently a 1.3 12 valve Toyota engine is way to complicated for your average mechanic :(

Toyota told me to throw it away :(

Although it seems like complete overkill, Weber Specialties in Glenfield. 443 5638.

Graham, I will call you this evening once I can get hold of a mate of mine.

He used to own "Carburetter Reconditioners" and still does a lot of work especially on race cars.

Conviently he lives in Manurewa and does this part time from home.

Cheers

Brian

Greg will know my mate Anthony's car, he rebuilt the motor. Weber Specs aren't cheap, but they did the carbs on his 205 also.

Sitting in his garage until he can afford a stronger diff, it ate the last one and started on the gear box. it's pretty amusing to ride in.

What is the actual issue with the carburettor Graham ??... the most common problem with them is the wax activator for the auto choke. These cant be fixed, you need to replace them. The last one I did years ago was about $200 for the unit

tell him to source a s16 gearbox... they are stronger than the 1.6/1.9/gti-6 box it's strange it's eating diffs as i know guys running 250- 400hp through these boxes...

Thanks Glenn, I have replaced that and it ran fine for a while, im thinking the problem is actually in the tuning of the carbie, also I think someone (Toyota) has messed with the automatic choke as it runs 90% when warm but when cold is running really bad. Manually warming it up at its 3,000RPM sweet spot is a bit harsh and noisy.

I have a 4A-GE in my shed that had I the time and money would be making its way into it, such a good little engine!

Was new from Toyota, $120, seeming the first one lasted 20 odd years im sure this new one couldn’t be dead already.

The water hoses going to it might be blocked and your thermostat could be faulty
