Getting a vodafone sim card to work in a 1998 740i

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm trying to help one of the old fellas out at work.

He's not long owned a 1998 740i and he's trying to be able use his in car phone.

The sim card slot in the dash (stereo) is a large credit card style thing which won't take the small vodafone sim card.

With this new law change, he's obviously trying to get the built in phone function to work in his car.

Is there some adapter he car use to get this to work?

(excuse my vagueness, I've not actually looked at his car, I'm just interpreting what his has told me)

Cheers,

Ollie.

Buy a new SIM card, comes in large and small formats

Hi jochen, apparently he's been to vodafone and also to Team McMillan and asked there for the larger sim card.

Vodafone told him to go and see BMW and BMW and told him to go and see Vodafone

Sounds like how my day goes at work sometimes :)

I would phone BMW NZ directly and get the proper skinny on it, Also maybe hit JC up. They have an electronics specialist there ... mind you it was the same person who told me my nav system couldnt be done.

All Sims come in the credit card size, but you snap them off to put them your phone. So buy a new sim and put the whole credit card sized plastic bit in (with the sim still attached) and it should work.

Get Vodaphone Duo. Works real well. Incoming calls are diverted to car phone when car is ignition is on. $10 a month for the service plus 50c a minute to call out. Credit card size and easy to swap between cars.

Yep. Pretty much.

You need the credit card sized piece of plastic. There's really no way around it and it's hardly that hard to do. Just go into vodafone, don't mention anything about the in car bs (They won't understand anyway) and buy a sim card!
