Possible cost involved with forced induction

All you guys who have done either:

) engine conversions

) or turbo/supercharger conversions

How much do you reckon it has cost you all up?

Engine conversions don't have to cost you anything if you do it yourself.I sold my old motor & box for more than the new one cost me.

2002tii conversion (reconditioning and boring out to around 2.1 litres) was around 6,000 plus custom exhaust and a few other bits and pieces. Sold for 16,000.

325i - building the 2.8 cost around the same, possibly a little more. Sold for 17,000.

320i wagon (with 2.7 already in it) cost around 13,000 from memory.

Not cheap to do - but a lot of fun - have only owned one BMW that didn't have a worked engine (1989 520i). The M3 has been worked, I think putting out close to 240 horses. Should dyno it one day.

Ironically, was viewing the January 2004 NZ Classic Car magazine this morning at VINZ (warranting the Isuzu) and both cars were in it for sale at the same time. The '02 by me and the 325i by the guy who bought if from me. Perhaps a record to have two cars you own(ed) for sale at the same time in the same magazine?

cost me a little ,but i always sell old parts to off set the cost .

or buy some other cars to do up and sell to pay for my expensive hobby.

and also costs me wife/children time (very bad)...

remember to play nice shelley.

turbo

fast

cheap

reliable

pick 2.

expect to spend around 5-10k for a nice set up that you can (safley) drive round on daily, and will give excellent gains.

add another 5k and you will be getting somewhere, and you get that somewhere alot faster.. :mosh:
