tiggger 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 OK I've another problem, I have 235/40ZR/17 all the way round. Last WOF they failed me because the front tyres rub on chassis when on full lock. Any suggestions (serious one's at least) And no I don't want to get rid of the mags. cheers
E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 That odd they rub, what is the wheel offset?? Go see BMW, in the ETK there is a steering stop that you can buy (optional part for E36's fitted with Msport 17"wheels & suspension), I think they are ~$60. They reduce your turning circle, but not rubbage.
aliluya 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 i had that problem with my E36 with 17'' mags .. but the wof place said it didn't matter because you'd never have the car in full lock while at speed ...
Jimocles 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 could try putting on 225/45R17s might narrow it just enough for you, will still fit on the same rims
E30-323ti 66 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 FYI. My sisters E36 has 225/45 R17's (38 offset) and they don't rub at all.
BMW POWER 2 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 Ok i was looking at the E36 before, and noticed that the grey skirt part sticks it from the inner wheel arch. If you want (but i wouldn't recommend) cut part of the skirting off if it rubs on that. I don't know about it, maybe if a person who knows about these things will read about this and say nah WTF are you on about Emma? Ah well its worth a try
tiggger 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 the tyres are actually rubbing on the chassis not the moldings, thanks for the suggestion anyway
BMW POWER 2 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Jees, well i can't think of anything that would help apart from whats already said. Good luck though Emma
m325i 709 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Testing station was it? Those guys are harsh. They failed me for heaps of little things, got my mum to take it down 30 mins later and it passed, go figure...

tiggger 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 "sic" you're not implying that it rains here are you? emma, thanks again spacers would have to be hidden some how as I think they are illegal
BMW POWER 2 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 No worrys Tigger, and you don't have to keep thanking me, although its VERY good you are polite.. unlike some people No and i'm not talking about anyone on Bimmersport. Just in general.
318is 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2005 (edited) By how much does it hit the chassis? Could you fabricate spacers to fit between the mags and discs, and if needed longer wheel studs to match?... would be hidden from old farts eyes at a testing station picking on you cos they missed out the night before.
