JiB 0 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Cheers guys It is lots of fun - lots to learn, lots to do! The M09 was a new design philosophy (leaving the R6 powertrain) - custom transaxle, narrower track, etc. So we weren't expecting too much at this competition because of all the bugs to sort out. But we did manage 3rd in skidpad and 5th in sprint, so the car is reasonably quick dynamically! Heard you guys came 7th. Pretty good effort considering the problems the car had at the end. Is everyone back now? I need to give Ollie a call... We were announced 7th, now 9th Not sure what the deal is tbh Well done, hope you guys had a good time! The car looks good. Cheers! The uniforms looked great! Lol they look funny. They're autocross cars, the minimum wheelbase is 1525mm so they're stumpy little things. Mind you, they're fairly impressive stumpy things, leaders are now 3sec to 100kph, 2+ lateral g's, 2.5g's deceleration! More awesome cars: Monash is famous for their wind tunnels, can you tell? Waikato - the only other kiwi team ECU and their awesome JPS colour scheme Wollongong and their turbo beast! 100nm of tq in a 200kg car!
Guest Ari Gold Report post Posted December 19, 2009 Some serious metal (carbon!) there! Well done on the provisional placings. A question though, I know we can't really comment without seeing some serious airflow data, but the wings on the Monash ride look almost repco-esque. Did you get a good look at them, can you comment on their performance enhancement?

A question though, I know we can't really comment without seeing some serious airflow data, but the wings on the Monash ride look almost repco-esque. Did you get a good look at them, can you comment on their performance enhancement? Lol, we like our carbon. For example, our carbon steering wheel with touch screen dash Excessive(ly awesome). We were also 1 of 3 teams with a full carbon monocoque at competition As for aero, Monash's wings do about 80-90kg's at 100kph. Not sure where the repco-esque-ness comes from. I think it looks awesome, the rear wing is mounted directly on the rear uprights! Auckland also had aero in 2006, could probably drive upside down at speed They guy who did the aero now works for Renault F1 if I iirc. Btw, don't hesitate to join our mailing list at fsae.co.nz for updates and info on the cars (or even better - if you know someone who'd like to sponsor us )
