How to make BS faster on FireFox

Some handy tips I stumbledupon, makes everything faster, bimmersport seems to be most improved though!

Reduce the amount of RAM Firefox uses for its cache feature

1. Type “about:config†(no quotes) in the adress bar in the browser.

2. Find “browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewerâ€

3. Set it’s value to “0“;(Zero)

Increase the Speed at Which Firefox loads pages

1. Type “about:config†into the address bar and hit Enter.

(Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.)

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining†to “trueâ€

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining†to “trueâ€

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests†to some number like 10.

This means it will make 10 requests at once.

3. Lastly, right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay†and set its value to “0“;.(Zero)

This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages faster now.

Optionally (for even faster web browsing) here are some more options for your about:config (you might have to create some of these entries by Right Click –> New– > Interger or String

network.dns.disableIPv6: set “falseâ€

“content.notify.backoffcountâ€: set “5“; (Five)

“plugin.expose_full_pathâ€: set “trueâ€.

“ui.submenuDelayâ€: set “0; (zero)

Reduce RAM usage to 10MB when Firefox is minimised:

This little hack will drop Firefox’s RAM usage down to 10 Mb when minimised

1. Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.

2. Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.

3. In the box that pops up enter “config.trim_on_minimizeâ€. Press Enter.

4. Now select True and then press Enter.

5. Restart Firefox.

All pretty simple stuff, but as always, use the info at your own risk!

Cheers for that I was getting really sick of Firefox have just switched to Chrome and am testing it so far a lot faster and easier to use

Might try these.. Only problem I have with firefox is that it takes FOREVER to open up the first time I jump on the PC.. every other time it opens up sweet.

What's it like compared to Safari Sam? Used I.E but Safari is alot quicker.

Never bothered to use Firefox as Safari seems pretty quick. Almost instant?

Why the jolly would you drop the ram limit to 10mb, Most computers these days have at least 2gb, unless you are on a real shitter.

Its says when minimized it drops to 10 MB. Therefore assuming it runs at an 'operating' speed (2gb or whatever you may have) when maximized. So in theory freeing up RAM for other applications to run at their 'operating' speed without interference from Mozilla?

Im no expert but that sounds logical?

chrome also runs a new system process for each tab you have open...

^I tried chrome after down loading FF, But was frustrated that it doesnt have right click refresh.

And yea I no you can use the browser refresh or hit F5 but old habits die hard.

Whatever it cant keep in ram, it will keep on the hdd. Hdd's are much slower than ram. When you minimise it anything that cant be fit in the 10mb ram allocation will be written to the hdd, which isnt really a problem. Except if you have heaps of tabs open, then when you maximise it, it has to load the info off the hdd again instead of loading from ram, which means it takes longer to maximise and load the opened tabs.
