I think the E36/46 also have the same caliper mount spacing, so the adaptor could also be used, albeit with a different disc (say the E46 M3 328x28). topcat 11 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 after quite awhile,we have brackets. took the guy alot of hours, but its testing time. brackets have been machined out of a solid piece of high grade ali. rotors were another headache, but landed on 346x30mm disks.(hence bigger wheels required) will try them on the 540 over the weekend, but will need to source a couple of new brake hoses are the standard length is a inch or two short.nevermind. these should work very well on the road and a massive difference on the track. made for the e28 and e34/e32 disks can be slotted, and have been advized to do so,for track use.Due to glazing up(?) enjoy, marty

Creaver 55 Report post Posted March 29, 2010 And the big questions - how much and what size wheels are required?
topcat 11 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 And the big questions - how much and what size wheels are required? yes that is a good question, bracket $300 calipers(brembo's) $500 disks/rotors, havnt nailed down a supplier.yet. will fit 17" schnitzers,e34 thro stars, racing dynamics.momo's and anything else that has a wheel ID of 415-420mm. hamman, oem wheels and BBS's need to be checked first. 18's definatly dont have a problem cheers m

Ian 535 0 Report post Posted April 3, 2010 (edited) My E28 M535 was the test car on Saturday to try out these new breaks of Martys and see if they do actually just bolt on and how they preform. I had replaced the standard breaks a year ago with 540i front and rear breaks. That showed great gains but step up from there by at least double again and you are close to what I experienced when we bolted on Martys bracket and BIG front breaks. I had to re learn to use less foot pressure to slow down as these breaks are really effective, I was slinging myself forwards in the seat when I hit the breaks hard. My previous upgrade was good but these breaks are awsome. If you want to reduce lap times then good breaks are essential. I am not sure what alternatives are available, probably none as wild and effective as these. My recomendation, get some now. I certainally am going on Martys list of buyers. Creaver 55 Report post Posted April 4, 2010 Hot damn, those sure do fill the wheel
topcat 11 Report post Posted April 5, 2010 Hot damn, those sure do fill the wheel yep they sure do, and thanks Ian for letting me testing 'em out on your car on friday a long day had passed on friday, but a very good one. the results were fantasic. friends car is a m535.standard MC and ok,but not briliant front bilsteins and standard springs./wondered about nose dive etc(didnt eventuate)(thankfully). Car had the 540 upgrade, front and rear. went for a spirited run round the block, nailling the brakes often, and getting to the point of fad.the protesting grunch/groaning as the pads start biting and abs kicking in it the last few meters. speeds of 100-0.120-1.160-0 repeat several times over. brake dust is yuck first, cut off the dust cap and bracket mounted.fitted the e38 single pot first to compare between the three,540 front/single/standard e38 and the brembo's surprizingly the standard (e38) pads use most of the disk face.only issue we had was it didnt fit the wheel, two wheels scrapped the caliper, the our two had 5mm clearance.the wheel details were alittle different,so will look into it later as why the diff.(maybe 18" wheels more suited) Results; single pot, smooth, and roughfly 20% less pedal effort for braking in general,(compared to the 540's) when we 'planted' it(pedal) was alittle firmer the the 540. stopping was sooner.(didnt do it the scentific was with tape measure etc,but there was definatly more pressure on the seatbelt keeping my head from being planted into the dash .so far so good.followed on with the same speed tests.100-0.120-0.160-0.rpeated several times. this time no noises,no compaining grunchs.asb was still kicking in but 'later' in the test.very last few feet. overal, the feel of the brakes was they were not labouring, smooth and controled and less driver input required on the pedal for a better stopping distance.no brake fad what so ever.when removing the caliper, was able to hold it my hand, was warm but not where near painful.the rotor was another thing.hot, too hot to work close to it,unbolting the calipers next the Brembo's went on with out a hitch.plenty of room between the caliper and rim.bleed up easy, and ready to test this time as everything was starting to bed -in,we noticed the pedal was a little longer.guessing the 4pot system needs a bit more fuild to work optimium.the driver effort to push the brake pedal was even easier then the single pot again100-0.120-0.160-0.even tho the longer pedal,it scrubbed of speed even faster.every smooth and a sharp bite at the very end of a high speed run.abs again working the very last few feet.very confident feel and endless braking. a 750 MC would work its magic on these calipers and really bring out there best.gave this setup abit more road time and without sounding like a salesman, was very impressed with the overal perfomance of the 4 pot brakes. scubbing off alot of speed at the very last few moments before sharp(knowing your going too fast for the conditions etc) lefts and rights was/is now a uncomplicated event. so there you go.i knew i was on the right track, but now i'm satisfied the effort to get them on the car was not for nothing. and i cant wait to test these babies on the race car  anyone keen on a set? will be making up afew more sets of brakets and overhauled calipers to have on the 540 for the driver training in Taupo,17th april. not convinced(?), I can let you run a couple of 'test' laps cheers marty
kiwi328i 118 Report post Posted February 16, 2015 Just seeing if I can resurrect this thread., from the dead... I was looking at cheap (relative) diy kind of hanging around type options for our beloved E34's on google, and this old post, was the best one I reckon, all the way back to NZ. No real surprise there, a nice surprise actually. So...who remembers this thread, who had them, and is anyone still making them?
