bravo 35 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 About farkin time. It's the August 2004 series. Anyway, it was pretty good the only prob is that they are focusing more on the showmanship and jokes than the cars at some times, but otherwise it is the same old TG I love and religiously watch. The first Episode Sunday 6th tested the DB9 and raced a train with it from Surrey to Nice. Also tested the CityRover a rebadged Tata Indica from India, and the Lotus Exige was the supercar round the track - tried to get missile lock on it with an Apache while it drove around the track
kiwi535 538 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 7 30 wasnt it??/I am sure i have seen that db9 clip before.....I reckon the mix is just right..some of the staged races are a bit over the top....apache vs lotus????wtf?
bravo 35 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Oh yeah - 7.30 I thought it said 1730. OTT is right, but still watchable, so go hard! :mosh:

m325i 709 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Top Gear sux ever since they got rid of Tiff and that chick, and replaced them with that midget and the other guy who cant drive. 5th gear has tiff and that chick, and is ok. (On Living channel) You get like 3 minutes of car porn and the rest is opel vectras and wanna be stand up comedian Clarkson talking sh*t. If you want car porn the net is your best bet. Try best motoring or downloading top gear, (as i am sure most have done). That way you get just the articles and no BS. Clarkson can't drive for sh*t. Check the Lotus Elise segment for proof. bravo 35 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I watch it because I like seeing fast cars going sideways. Who gives a sh*t if the presenter can drive or thinks he is funny. (Although smooth delivery of the presenting is important so you don't go to sleep, and here JC is good. 5th Gear still doesn't thrash the test cars enough - too much chat, not enough blat - nuff said. If I wanted to read the spec sheet I would. If I want to know how the car drives, then I probably am looking at buying one, and I won't be relying on a TV show review to decide - I will actually drive it myself. Hence - I like TG more than 5thG - it appeals to the hoon within. I may not be a connossiuer of car TV, but I know what I like, as trashy as that may be. Grant 4 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 I like TG more than 5thG I'm with you, I watch both, but prefer TG. I actually think that JC is quite funny, and I also think that Paul (the midget) is pretty funny too.I could take or leave the other guy. However, I'm the first to admit that Tiff is one of the best drivers, and his limited thrashing of the cars is always good value. Cheers
m325i 709 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 (edited) I watch it because I like seeing fast cars going sideways. Have you lost it? "New" Top gear has f^*k all of that. Clarkson cant drift. You get like 3 minutes of rarking it up per episode. Tiff could drive and drift far better. If you want to see cars go sideways you are watching the wrong programme. Try Best Motoring if you like sideways, cars getting trashed, presenters who actually drive cars and no BS. Top gear is sooo biased toward anything British. bravo 35 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Ok, Ok you may be right - I never saw the old one so can't compare. All I know is that TG is the best motoring programme on at the mo IMO. Thanks for the link, but since I can't watch it at work and only have 56k at home due to living in a rural area outside all of the broadband suppliers reach, I will have to miss out. Carl 3 Report post Posted February 7, 2005 Ouch! 2mb for me :thumb: You've got to rethink what TG is about plus understand that not everyone shares a passion for the internet and for downloading videos.I like top gear purely because of JC, he's funny to watch (and to read), and there are a few people who only watch TG because of JC, my g/f, my parents, and my neighbours for instance. I've watched 5thG and thought it quite dull to be honest. I too couldn't give a hoot about specs on a car, HP and torque is all good, but entertainment is where it's at and TG rates highly there. My 2c.
m325i 709 Report post Posted February 8, 2005 like top gear purely because of JC, he's funny to watch Like Bob Sagat too?
Carl 3 Report post Posted February 8, 2005 Like Bob Sagat too? Alan Partridge aswell
petone 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2005 I agree with carl about JC being the reason many people watch TG. 5th Gear is no where near as popular or as funny and JC is the main reason for that. It would be nice if they had Tiff back on TG so there was someone who could do proper sideways. Take his article on the E46 M3 when he was on top gear, mad drifting while calming talking to the camera while doing it. As far is entertainment goes TG is a far better package than 5thG and it appeals to much more people becuase it has a mix of everything.
martyyn 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2005 (edited) Ahhhh there's nothing like personal opinion to get a decent debate going ....so Ill add my tupp'ny worth. Personally I think TG is rubbish now. In the old days with Tiff, Vicki and Quentin it was quality because Clarkson had a couple of rivals when it came to personality. He was kept to a couple of briefs spots where his dry wit and humour was extremely funny. Now however with there only being the three of them (and the other two being complete twats) he has an hour to fill and they struggle to find the filler between the genuinely funny stuff. I still watch it because there is fcuk all else, but I prefer 5G. The two parts however will never be the same as the whole. I will never forget one of the TG episodes where the four of them were in one of the (then) new Roller convertibles. Tiff was driving the other three with the top down and it was pi$$ing with rain. After a few seconds of them 'eating the cucumber sandwiches' and 'wafting in sheer luxury' etc, he started hurtling down the airstrip doing 360 handbrake spins  Whereas Clarkson losses control regularly and laughs it off as being 'the beast within', Tiff really can handle a car and I could only dream of being able to do what he does with his eyees closed. I also cant help the fact that Id love to help Vicki sort out that lisp of her's :pimp: Edited February 8, 2005 by martyyn
