e39 cd shuttle stuff NEED help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my cd shuttle in my e39 528i seems to have gone kaput so is there any aftermarket brand that would blend in seamlessly with the original stereo unit in my bimmer. There is on trademe a couple of bimmer shuttles that came out of 3 series bimmers, would they work in my 5 series ?. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, 3 & 5 cars have the same changers. They are an Alpine unit.

Alternatively they can be repaired - Max Electronics in Auckland specialise in Alpine & are good with these

Mine says No Disc even though it has some. Worth fixing Grant? Or should I just get one of those Ipod things.

Yes they are Dan. I have had several fixed by Max via work. Once fixed they seem to be fine.

Ironically mine was also playing up - I recently pulled it apart to have a looksee. Apart from cleaning the laser, I did nothing (that I know of) but since then it has not faulted -probably only a matter of time though:-

Otherwise, get techo & get one of those unit's Jochen was promoting.

My unit say's no discs as well so I presumed it's laser had become unaligned and a mate said if you get it realigned it will only last about three days and when you go over a decent bump it will go out of whack again. Grant, I pulled the unit out and I noticed that the cables plug into the bottom of the shuttle with two with two little black plugs, so all the BMW Shuttles I've seen on trademe have cables coming out the back of the units with one dimm/din plug and one white plug. So do I need a specific unit.

I haven't had any that have been repaired fail again (apart from mine obviously to quite likely).

Yes you are correct as to cable connects - the ones you have seen on TM must be earlier units.

I have seen 3 & 5 cars with the same units.

Hmm once I fix EVERYthing else on my 540 I will fix the stacker. At the moment I have 4 wheel steering. Shitty tow control arms.

BUGGER, know what you mean, Ive got the front shimmy to deal with but in this case I think it's the Ching Chong discs I fitted a while ago as it's under braking. Also got two RHS wheels slightly buckled - the joys of 18"s & no rubber for a buffer I guess

Yeah thanks Brent. I just remembered I tried to thief my sisters Ti's stacker and it didn't fit. Her car is a late 96 early 97. So it must be the real later models.
