Could be jochen question

Recommended Posts

I've been you-tubing my navi unit. Can anyone confirm my unit is a MKIV ? (E53 X5 3.0d 2005 model facelift)

Mods I have installed is "camera notification" & rebadged the Splash screen with the M Motorsport logo.

I've found the "secret" menu and have found the perspective option & enabled it. I've ticked this but it's made no difference to the maps screen where I thought it puts you on a different angle from say this:

If it says DVD on the front of the nav, it is a Mk4

Once Perspective is enabled in the Service Menu, you can turn it on in the normal map view settings

I don't understand why half of these threads can't just be pm's......

It's a forum man, thats what we do.

That screen you posted is from a MK3 nav computer (notice the circle vehicle icon and the fact its not in 'anti-aliasing' graphics. The youtube one is the mkIV screen.

Again, without a photo of the nav computer we can't confirm anything.

I didn't do the PM thing because there's more than one person here that specialises in this kind of guff - that & it is a forum - otherwise everyone would just use MSN!

Will try the menu thing again. BRB!

EDIT:

Have found it, is coming up perspective now, looks alot better IMO, but at 100m range it doesn't seem to give all the streets, can easily switch back though.

I hate MSN, Skype is better :-)

Remember the MENU button is a dual button, if you cannot get to the Service Menu using the left hand side of the MENU button, then try the right hand side

For the best zoom level. Use 500 meters on open road / 100kph zones. Use 200 meters for around town. Use 100 meters when you get close to your destination.

Use 20Kms etc for seeing how far away from a township on open road.

I usually use 500m here in Dunedin on "heading direction" mode It seems to give most landmarks easily enough, when I'm searching for a street I just lock it down to 100m.

Yeah auckland is a bit different I guess, roads are fairly close here but you still want to see what major turns are coming up when navigating. 200m is a good mix of the both.

I find the nav hag quite good, gets you judging 500meters / 100 meters quite well

All I do is when its on maps is just turn the knob and it adjusts the zoom range. So is this the MKIV unit? It has DVD on the navi rom.

Cheers

Yes it is, I have some custom software that gives you audio and visual warnings of fixed speed cameras if you are interested..

My mate implemented Auto-Zoom on the Mk4 nav by changing the zoom levels according to the current vehicle speed

Sort of "SDMS" (Speed Dependent Map Scaling)

All it needs is a PIC and then write a small ibus interpreter that listens to kmph and sends out map scale changes as required, with a bit of hysterisis so that it does not switch back and forth all the time.

Hybrid: something for those wet Sunday afternoons in between waiting for new parts for the E30...

I've got this software installed but haven't worked out how to install the camera locations as yet.

I've got this software installed but haven't worked out how to install the camera locations as yet.

First get the list of NZ camera locations.

you'll want a name, latitude and longitude as an absolute minimum

Then use my POI_Maker Excel spreadsheet to enter the locations, and any other data you might want (maybe the speed limit per camera?).

POI_Maker: http://www.siegenthaler.co.nz/POI_Maker/index.htm

From POI_Maker you can generate the necessary IDX (index) and URL files.

Then add the IDX and URL files to the nav map disc, using a new (unused) POI category, as per instructions found elsewhere on the 'net.

Hmmmm interesting, I like the idea of that.

What PIC is he using ? Im actually keen on programming some other automation in with it.
