antil33t 90 Report post Posted June 22, 2010 for 4k, I'd keep my eye out for an E28. A nice E34 could be much more than 4k.
Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted June 22, 2010 (edited) Got an E28 M535i, genuine, plastic kit, auto, needs some TLC but sound car, looking for a new home. Have a manual box and flywheel to go with it. Within your budget too. Edited June 22, 2010 by Silver Fox

tire 10 Report post Posted June 22, 2010 A rough but running E34 535iS should fit into that budget, that gets my vote.
Silver Fox 43 Report post Posted June 22, 2010 Wouldn't get an E24 older than an 85 or 86, make sure it has the newer rear subframe, needs to have the dogbone links. The earlier subframe and chassis are not as good as the later ones.

BM WORLD 1283 Report post Posted June 22, 2010 Always been partial to the sharks lol, can anyone elaborate on the major differences between early and later cars? RUSTY or REALLY RUSTY (hidden under bog) dont get a uk import .(probably only choice in your price range though) as david said get 1984ish onwards built on e28 platform so easy to get mech stuff , suspension etc . front wings cost more a $1500 EACH NEW , compare that to tidy second hand e28 wing $100 etc

Eagle 1662 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 Id say E28 535i. 4k would be a project E24 Ive been on the look out for a nice decently priced E24 for near a year now and nothings come up, id say most of the nice ones don't change hands much if at all. mr E34 11 Report post Posted June 23, 2010 I would recommend an E28 535i or E34 535i,(manual/M suspension could be fitted later as funds allow) must have big block 6 cylinder, you have the capability of painting so you could do it up at your leisure. E28 wise, cant beat Diamond Black, Alpina look. E34 wise, cant beat Diamond Black, full M bodykit. You can't beat the sound of a tuned screaming M30b35 engine on a good exhaust, during dyno runs they sound like a Spitfire engine winding up. E28 Alpina as reference
