dubman 39 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 There's a roll cage in the last pic. How terrible does a car have to be to need a roll cage from factory? With over 1,000 ft-lbs of torque starting at zero rpm and a 600 kW (805 hp) motor controller, the Tango accelerates from 0-60 mph in under four seconds, finishes the standing 1/4 mile in about 12 seconds at over 100 mph, and can reach over 130 mph with no gear shifting. According to wikipedia and their website

Guest Simon* Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Surely it would tip over backwards straight away with any more than a handful of Nm of torque?!!!
[email protected] 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) WOW Looks like a great way to get yourself killed on the roads. This kinda sh*t just doesn't work in the real world. If they are going to make electric cars they need to be as big and safe as normal sized cars. Once they have a 7 series sized car, 5/5 star crash rating that is fully electric and can go 500km per charge that takes less than 1 hour to charge, then they have a worth while product. [email protected] 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 Class it as a motorbike and move on? Yeah but the eco mentalists that buy them think they are a small car perfectly safe. Idiots. Ah well probably good if they get killed in the long run.
bravo 35 Report post Posted July 17, 2010 Mike-e36 - agree for the most part, but I suspect consumers expectations will change a wee bit, and the disadvantages of alternative power (whether it be electric or something else) will be outweighed by perceived benefits. It's not as though combustion engines are without faults. Cheaper servicing, better power delivery, less maintenance, longer serrvice intervals, and not needing to stop for gas are all possible benefits of alternative fuels which may make sharter maximum range and other disadvantages bearable. I bet when the internal combustion-powered carriage came along, horse owners moaned about having to refuel etc too.
