Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted August 22, 2010 Ok. So me and Luka bought a cabby. Its a NZ new E30 325 manual with 200 k's on it. When we bought it, it looked like someone had left the thing in the desert for a few years. The roof is well f**ked but we have another skin. (thanks Ian and Dave) We stripped it all out at the workshop and the more we pulled off the more desert sand we found. So we got a little bit carried away and not the car is gutted and will be getting sprayed inside and out. Anyways here are some pics.
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted August 22, 2010 Oh. Plan is to keep it as original as possible. So far we need to get new carpet, clean the sh*t out of the interior panels and seats, make up some new shifter and hand brake gators, fix the brakes, fix exhaust leak, full service etc etc. Should be sweet for some queer cruising in summer time. Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks mate, has anyone ever done the roof on one of these before? Looks like a dog of a job. Noone really wants to touch it Except BMW, who want $1200 to fit it. So I think I will try it first and see how I go, atleast there is a forked one to pull apart to see how it fits. Think there is some glueing involved too somewhere along the line.

bravo 35 Report post Posted August 22, 2010 Dad did the roof on his baur. Will ask how he found it. There's a place in Auckland that specialises in cab roofs of all makes and models. Advertise in Classic Car Mag all the time, but I can't remember their name.

Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 Has really been a bit of work, more just scrubbing and fine detailing. Although not that fine, still looks a bit better than it did before. Have retro-fitted an early E36 badass cassette player, E36 gearknob, got one of the girls from our workroom to make a gear knob gator, put some new tires on all round, new front lip, cambelt etc done, tappets, few gaskets etc full service, new (well not quite, but better than before) carpet, few new clips and moulding etc. The hardest part of the whole thing was doing the roof. Took 2 of us 2 days to do it. Would do it a little different if i were to do it again, if anyone wants to undertake it, let me know and I will point out what NOT to do. It is essentially completly original and this project is now finished. Have yet to take it for a proper drive, I took it for a warrant last week and it passed no worries, will get a reg tommorow in time for the meet. All that is left to do really is get that kick panel for below the steering wheel and fix an exhaust leak at the manifold which has suddenly come up today. Think the gasket has probably sh*t itself. /thread
Nobimmer 694 Report post Posted January 30, 2011 Very nice! Be keen on the paint job in the next few weeks mate. Would like to help mate, but thanks to the w4nker next door and the department of labour, we can no longer spray ANYTHING. Not even spray cans . Have had 3 spot inspections in the last 2 months.
