MaxIs 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2010 (edited) Hello, I'm Max from the Netherlands. At first I want to say good luck to anyone hit by the quake, I got family in Chch who are thankfully allright... but those pictures.. I've been to NZ 2 years ago as a backpacker so I remember what is was like, unbelievable.. But lets get on with bussiness, why did I sign up here? I could register at a dutch forum, but I know from experience that you kiwi's like to really "tune" your cars. Unlike here in europe where 90% of the tuners just drive around with tinted windows, lowered to the ground so they cant take any speedbumps, and open exhaust with more noise than functionality... I've been amazed by some car's I've seen driving around NZ, old toyota station cars with a BIG gaping square hole in the front bumper for an intercooler. Drifters.. and their rubber on the roads just outside of each town.. What I'm trying to say, I like your way of (performance) tuning better. I just love the technique/power/sound of turbo's and that is what seems to be the first thing you do about your cars. So that is the plan with my beemer too... I think it sounds as if I was just there for the cars, off course not but I just can not NOT look at them. Plus my first word as a baby, before mam or dad, was really CAR SO! Yesterday I bought this BMW E30 from 1984 with the M10B18 engine (carburettors) 200K on the clock. Quite a bit of (superficial) rust, nothing really serious it seems. And most of it below the front numberplate as you can see. The chrome bumpers were allmost half brown half bling, that came of pretty easy as well. It was running on half a carb, I was doing 120km/h max, maybe 130 downhill So today we took it of and cleaned it completely, the floater(?) for the second gasvalve(?) was stuck. Fixed it and now it's running like new again. Clocked 180km/h today, that should be about it's normal top speed I think. So like I said, the plan is to "turbo" it. The plan is to get an M42 engine first. Hence my name: Max IS Could have put turbo behind it Then put M50/M52 pistons and rods in, got this idea from an youtube clip. This guy says he's running complete stock internals, with only those adjustments. They do have the same bore so it should fit. Turbo at 1,5bar > 333 HP. Sounds allmost to good to be true. If I could even get mine near or over 200 HP I would be happy. I'm going to bed! Too tired from working on the bimmer all day long, will check in here every day from now on! Cheers! Apex 693 Report post Posted September 5, 2010 Welcome to Bimmersport Max. Most of the “tuners†here do the same max so it’s not exclusive to Europe, the only reason we have so many tuned Japanese cars is because of our relaxed used import rules, NZ has more JDM cars per capita than any other country outside of Japan, we also get used parts very cheap. Good luck with your project.

AN E30 Fan 1 Report post Posted September 6, 2010 Welcome, There are lots of knowledgeable people on the forum who will be able to help you out with your plans for the E30.
MaxIs 0 Report post Posted September 7, 2010 Not sure to post this here.. But I found this E36 with M42 engine. http://link.marktplaats.nl/374342016 There is not much info in the advert but I had the owner on the phone today. He says the engine has done about 200K, everything is good, no strange noises, except for the headgasket (leaking). But he's not sure, it could also be a crack in the head itself off course. The engine oil has no coolant in it, that's for sure. But that still doesn't guarantee it's just the gasket. It's still in the car, I have to get it out myself, including everything except radiator (need a bigger one anyway) So I can hear it run for a minute or 2... - wiring - computer - airintake - exhaust - engine mounts - transmission - driveshaft for just € 250 / NZ$ 500. I guess I can't go wrong there.. even if the head is cracked it's a bargain right? I can also buy a good engine without extra parts from germany, € 200. Has done about 180K and is tiptop. Combine the 2 together, slap a turbo on... in theory I think it's not a bad plan. What are your thoughts?
Tristan 338 Report post Posted September 7, 2010 I don't know anything about engine conversions but perhaps you should start a project thread. That way you get everything in one place, people also look through the projects forum to give advice, get ideas etc. so you'll be able to gather more information there I believe. Anyway, best of luck.

MaxIs 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2010 Got AC Schnitzer rims, and lowered it a bit. Took some picture's today. Still quite high eh? Hope it just needs some time to get a little lower in the rear...
