*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted January 9, 2011 May I ask why you are limiting yourself to just a 320i ? Would you not consider other E36 models ?
rowans17 19 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 May I ask why you are limiting yourself to just a 320i ? Would you not consider other E36 models ? My preference would be a 320 however if anybody has any other manual e36 models up for offer i would definitely be interested however no larger than a 325 now that petrol is over $2 a liter . Thanks. Thanks. i dont think you will find a 323i 325i 328i use much more fuel than 320i (they have to rev higher and dont create much power or torque unless you rev them heaps)325i 328i would be much higher geared and have better torque to pull the car along. if you are going drag all the weight around of a 6cyl engine and gearbox you might as well have more of it moving up and down and creating power rather than just being static weight etc. if you want ecnomey get a later 318is with the 4cyl 1.9L engine in motorsport spec etc
Braeden320 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 Have owned a 1998 320i and a 1996 323i in the past, both E36, both auto. I found that the 323i was the more economical of the 2, Espcially on long trips. often got 650-700k's out of a tank. Was a far better car to drive all around, felt alot more willing to get up and go. The 320i always felt a bit strangled, espcially with a few people on board or up a hill. I would buy a 323i again in a heartbeat if I needed a decent cheap car. Smac01 12 Report post Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) I'd agree - after taking my 323i around the North Island over Christmas, I was getting good economy. Over 10km/l even with aircon going non-stop, and a packed car. (600 - 700 km a tank) It's much nicer to drive than the 318is I had previously.
