m325i 709 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 for drifting you will need quite a bit of stuff. Do the IS's have LSD>? If they do you prob gonna need another at some point. HD clutch, Strut braces, new suspension, and waay more power, (Turbo like you said). Dude it will be so expensive. But do it. I thought about it, then thought better of it. Get an s14 imo

CaM 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 (edited) grab some pics if you can dude, keep it original - buy a common as m325i if you're going to fux0r it with drifting... 318iS's aren't quite as common as you would think.... apparently only 5 or thereabouts in nz.. Gus 5 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 1) It is not an is front lip, it is a standard facelift front lip. If you have an 'is' why replace the cool is lip for a boring standard one? they get lost, are ridiculously expensive from dealer and impossible to find 2nd hand...any more reasons? Surge 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 OT: There's a white 318is here in CHCH with lip and all! Mmmm sexy. I'd like to see a BMW in the NZ drift scene.
Guest Andrew Report post Posted April 18, 2005 dude - you sound like you don't have enought knowledge/info to turbo the iS.. plus it still wouldn't crack 200 hp .. it would suck.
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 You can do it naturally aspirated. Call DCH Motorsport in Christchurch, see if you can buy one of our new 2.5l motors. 300hp (approx). It should cost you around $20k. Who needs a hairdryer on their car?
Carl 3 Report post Posted April 18, 2005 Nice call Cain Seriously though, 300hp from a NA 2.5...that's tits
DrphTa 5 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 (edited) hmm k, im gana leave it all standard and after i seel it buy a 325i and do it up.. edit: sensible posts or face deletion Edited April 21, 2005 by ///Carl
Gus 5 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 i wouldnt bother drifting an e30....main reason...you cant buy LSD's....an s14 or s13 silvia would be much better choice, plus parts are prob cheaper
Ryan 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 my IS has that front lip in the pic on it... well it did until it went to a panel shop then it mysteriously dissapeared... not so happy bout that...
318i Turbo 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 guy at work has a turbo 318i with the is motor he has about 320rwhp if i remember right
Surge 1 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Yeah but Cain, My pockets aren't deep enough to rebuild my engine every 20 hours. Although, 300hp from a 2.5 is rather nice - Love the S14 varients.
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted April 19, 2005 Hi Surge That car should have an M42. Our 2.5l are S42 derivatives. So we get longer life from the block.
EVLBMA 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 [guy at work has a turbo 318i with the is motor he has about 320rwhp if i remember right ] I'm sure I've seen this. M42 with turbo/frnt mount etc. Very tidy looking. Just goes to show, anything's possible with deep pockets. 320 rwhp would be psychotic in an E30 :thumb:
EVLBMA 0 Report post Posted April 27, 2005 Agreed. Would be different though. If it wasn't for road use, you can't look past the dodgy welded locker! If funds aren't an issue, I'd love to see it done.
