High Exchange Rate - Kiwi$ v's US$

We have all been listening to the financial news this week, and noted the "record" high's of the NZ$ against the US$. The price of imported goods will drop as a result! When is the price of petrol going to come down?? We see the oil companies raising prices SO FAST when the NZ$ drops, but how SLOW!!!!!!!! are they to reduce??? Sucker motorists again!!

Not a word from the government as lower prices means lower excise taxes and GST!!

Sticky prices on inelastic goods defying gravity once again. It's just oligopolistic pricing to gouge consumers.

Although I recently read an article that said that markets are inefficient when prices are dropping because consumers don't search for lower prices. Whereas when prices are rising, consumers do in fact search out lower prices. So yes, perhaps sucker motorists.

Some of it is the US$ getting weaker - oil price in US$ has gone up a little.

OPEC has announced it is not going to increase it's output for the next quarter - keep supply relatively tight and prices high. With only one small region of the planet producing any worthwhile volumes of oil it is very easy to manipulate the market, and as the poor suckers at the end of the line we will have to keep paying!
