Another compact project

Awesome. I'd be happy with half your motivation and 10% of your know how! I'll have to settle for beg, borrow and stealing (well, working, in my case) to pay for the work on my car!

The setup is still a work in progress. But it works.

The biggest gains were between 2000 and 3000 where the power is up by over 60%

The AFR is a bit rich

We stopping working on it after the fan stopped and she got a bit hot.

I think I will fit an inter cooler and tidy up some of the pumping before I have another go at tuning it.

The car went on the dyno after work today.

Standard atw 95hp (70kws)

supercharged @7psi 135hp (98kw)

While it doesn't sound like much its still a 40% increase

Had to change the injectors, stole some from a 90's rvr

I like!!!

And what about the torque.....

Guessing up by a fair whack if you're seeing +60% power through the midrange.

Are you going to try one of the cheapie W2A intercoolers from Tardme between the SC & Inlet?

I been thinking about long term engine options.

At first I thought about putting in a 2.8l, but really this car was always about letting the kids having a go at motorsport. (plus I could use it) so I think a 2.8 is a bit to much for a 12year to learn in.

A 6cylinder also means it will need bigger brakes straight away.

So I'm back to keeping with using a 4pot for the time being. As the supercharger was only a raining day project done with limited funds (less than $200 to do) I never intended it to be used once the car has a roll cage.

So we have pulled down a M44 a mate gave me

I'm going to use SR20de pistons, with 1.4mm machined off the tops this should give the engine a CR of 12.5:1

If I bore it out from 85 to 86mm I can use an M44 head gasket, I would like to go to 87mm but not this engine at this time

M44 rod with sr20 piston fitted

Ah jeees Ive just bought a set of DE (low comp) and DET pistons as well. Thought i might have been on to somthing there. Turns out im 5 min late again.

Will be watching to see how this goes together.

I take the need to machine 1.4mm off is because your using a M44 crank? M42 and DE compression height are very close to oneanother so if a m42 crank is used then machining wouldnt be needed? or at least to a lesser degree.

Also valve pockets will need machining?

If you use the M42 Crank you don't need to machine.

The Low comp de pistons will give you about same CR as a standard m42, the det will be lower again.

I'm going to use the flat top de pistons, I still might only machine 1-1.2mm off and have them come up out of the bores to allow a little more for the machining of valves and head work, and still ended up around 12.5:1 CR

you can also use m50 135mm rods and mitsi evo pistons works good for forced induction

I took the car for a drive to Tauranga on Monday.

I only got about 20km's out of Rotorua before the fuel pump plug on the fuel tank burnt out. I dodgy that up and continued on my way.

About another 10-15kms and the car started to lose power, then after a little while it came back and then looses it again. It turns out the rear muffler is blocking up.

Time to replace it. $101 dollars at repco gets me a new 2.5" muffler and now the car rev's out

A bit of an update.

Not to much progress

Took the car for a wof, Failed on drivers seat belt , rear seat belt, no horn button, no door panels and strangely enough the supercharger.

Seat belts fixed, horn works, door panels are getting made out of fiberglass, and I'm going to unbolt the supercharger to get a wof.

Some XYZ suspension has been ordered, And a friend at BNT is going to sort me out some better brake pads.

I have made some panels for behind the bumper to help duct the air into the radiator a little better, as the car had nothing at all

Mounted a isolating switch, starter button, and some extra switches to help control the extra power :D:P

Are the rear subframe bush holes larger then the front Eddie? I noticed them on my m3 bushes last week when I was installing them.
