e30 headliner - changing the color

Recommended Posts

Hi all

im sick of the terrible biege headliner i have. I know some people have successfully painted/dyed their headliner. What did people use? How did it go? Did it last?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

That will be a mission if you do it inside the car. And still a mission if you remove it cos you have to remove all door seals and front & rear window seals cos the liner is sealed under it all and then glued.

Good luck.

I used the VHT vinyl dye. I did it in the car, wasnt too bad. Masked off the windows and removed some of the trim around the hood liner.

As long as you clean the hood liner the dye should last for a long time, it's not like anything actually touches / rubs on the liner unless you're quite tall.

Black tyre shine that you paint on with a brush, takes a few thin coats to get a deep enough color. Works good and is cheap, mine hasn't faded after about 12 months since painting it and no pulling the headliner apart to boot.

PM'd you but might as well contribute. /\/\ This is what I've done too. Would have used vinyl paint but everywhere was sold out and couldn't be bothered waiting.

Turned out like this.
