Garryg 5 Report post Posted February 14, 2012 (edited) I'm looking to replace the head unit in my 2001 E39. At present I only have a basic radio and cassette (YES Cassette) in the flap above the radio. I'm looking to replace the complete unit with the one with the screen. Let me know what you have...? What I Have.......! What I Want... (or similar)! Cheers Edited February 14, 2012 by Garryg

matt45 1 Report post Posted February 15, 2012 The OEM in dash monitor is exactly that JUST a monitor. All the graphics are generated by the tv/video module in the boot. it is a complex/expensive but not imposible retro fit (at least 2k) alternative would be to install a dynavin unit which fits straight into the space and doesn't require all the other modules. You seen that guy on bimmerforums that fitted a Samsung galaxy tab in there instead? Used a obd2 bluetooth dongle to read live data. Put a simcard in it to make calls etc. Has nav with google maps. Bring out a Double Din Headunit frame that holds their smartphone, and voila you have a whole group of car owners buying your phone ......

Yes buying your phone AND ipad/tablet, double the sales. And then somehow use the phone as a parrot type thing that can sync to your tablet for hands free?
